Man, I want people to order new Fountains and the brand grows. Don't know what happened on this latest 38 Lightning but the paint design is not great and the interior is terrible. The bolsters are hideous and do not appear to be very functional, rear bench looks like they forgot to install some components. The concept might have been forward thinking but the finished product is not very desireable. Fountain, keep the interior in house and keep making evolutionary tweaks. The finished product will be so much better.

The new craze of center counsels will probably last for a while now also but they to are getting extremely expensive and fast for what they were intended and designed for.
You'd have to pay me (a lot) to own a pontoon (dock with an engine).

Funny,
At the Fort Lauderdale boat show we were standing on a "dock" looking at a CC with four seven marine motors on it. Talking with on of the reps, pontoon boat came up. He said we were standing on one powered by a seven marine OB.

I turn around and sure enough, what I originally thought was just an engine cover was the entire motor. Under the carpet was a toon!

Their retail price has not changed in many years. Compare Fountain or Donzi retail in 06-07 for the same boat now, prices are the same. I have the paperwork from mine when it was new. Don't understand the sticker shock. Now, who knows what the boat actually sold for then, same can be said for new boats.

35-40k for two ASD 7's vs i think 40? for XR's and ITS... 35 each i think is the price for new 6's plus 30 for gimbals... i bet 50k would build you some pretty serious power (750hp) from teaque or the like... i can even imagine what merc 700's cost... the new merc small block LS i bet will make some sweet engine packages.. 28k MSRP for 775 HP with less weight and better fuel eco... be a cool set motor for sure

Im not sure the thought here.

A set of Merc 700's with nxt/6 and tranny's is 100k per side. Thats 200k for the powertrain. Now you need to build the boat, put the gauges, interior, paint, wiring, misc on and on. How could you do that for 50-75k?
Thats what it takes to build a boat guys.
Did you ever try to redo a boat and watch it nickel and dime you to death?

I dont see any boat builders of powerboats making so much money they dont know what to do with it? It's a tight margin when done. I'd bet a boat builder is lucky to make 5-10% margin when said and done on building a new power boat.
Can your business survive on 5-10% margins? That is pretty bare bones.
