Default Can a set of imco rams be shortened

I'm looking at a used set of IMCO rams that are about 2 inches too long. The stroke is correct. 8", but the over rod length is too long. The body length is ok.

Thanks

The longer Rams have to be mounted fuarther away from the centerline than shorter Rams. I don't know how you can shorten them.

They can, but it will limit travel the same as if you just mount them short of half travel. I did it once and decided it was a waste and should've just mounted the Rams where they fit

Ok, thanks guys. I'm just gonna get the right ones. I'm using an XR upper and an extension box with wings so it is length specific

A good hydraulic repair shop should take care of it. as in cylinder repair on heavy equipment

Imco makes rams in different lengths with different amounts of travel. Also they have different back caps for the drive.

SR-6-1-12 RAM ASSEMBLY STER 1.000" DIA ROD 15.562" CLOSED 21.875" OPEN CLEVIS TO CLEVIS CL
SR-8-1-13 RAM ASSEMBLY STER 1.000" DIA ROD 17.125" CLOSED 25.375" OPEN CLEVIS TO CLEVIS CL
SR-8-1-14 RAM ASSEMBLY STER 1.000" DIA ROD 18.125" CLOSED 26.375" OPEN CLEVIS TO CLEVIS CL

You could always have a set of brackets made to mount of the transom and make the Rams work. We do it all the time. If you spin the boat out hard enough with the wings on the box the drive gets ripped off and the boat sinks.
