Just looked at that EC model , nice boat. What do you like about as opposed to the 370SS?
Looks a little more trailerable. What about just buying one with the 496s and bravos? Won't have to worry about butchering yourself when you fall off the swim platform peeing. |
My 370 has held up well since 2005. Same drives and engines never rebuilt with 600 hours.

Saw a donzi 38 zfc with 500efis at LOTO go for less than 100. Great looking boat but some researching had people claiming they were a little slow.

Love the Arnesons.
Rebuilt a sunk a1985 Formula sr1 that had some 425 Inovation/Kamma motors and Kaama surface drives back in 1986. The simplicity and speed gain sold me that I never wanted an outdrive again. Shallow water capability and durability from hitting something Sold me once and for all. I like the Green. Looks Classy with a gold stripe. The Arnesons rock. You would be soooo far ahead just putting some carbed low rpm 540s in it . You would have to run that thing 5000 hours to recoup what those little diesel would cost you in repairs. The Yanmar 315 were $ 22000 12 years ago direct from Mastery in Tampa , a gear is another 3000. Today a pair of small 300 horse diesels with gears are going to run you 60 thousand minumun. |

Harder or impossible to bring home to maintain/fix ( might not make it thru gate) Pros: 1. No towing 2. More room 3. No packing (so says my wife) 4 . Longer season 5. 2 bedrooms Black Thunder: Pros: 1. Speed 2. No wide load permits 3. No slip fees 4. No winter storage fees 5. not stuck in one place 6. Cooler than a cruiser 7. Not so grandpa layout 8. On land gas prices 9. Bring home to work on Cons: 1. Bravos 2. Trailering 3. Shorter season 4. Like I said if you can get into the bigger cube cummins and yanmars there is good reliable options. But your not going to put 4000 pounds into a narrow beamed boat under 40 feet. The 3208 cats are stretched to far to be reliable above 325 horse so that is a motor I would avoid in the Cat game I'll take a cheap reliable easy to repair gas motor over a diesel any day if you can make enough torque and power with it. Bring along a carb and extra distributor and coil and plugs and you are golden. Tough to rebuild that $3800 high pressure injection pump on a holiday weekend . Not to mention the inter cooler with a leak in it or the 3000 dollar brand specific Turbo, or injectors and so on. |

I think they were referring to the donzi 39 zsc, its not a cc, lots of beam an 2 separate berths. There is always the donzi 45zx also. Many had trip 500efis. Not to start a trip vs twin debate, but I would rather have (3) 500/525s and bravos, than 2 big headaches parts breakers that is constantly mess with. If I went to a 46 Blackthunder it would have trips 500s. Big heavy boat, have a 3rd drive to help not work the other 2 so hard. Plus they a relitvely cheap. Just my .02.
I figured if I can't find a 370/38 ec with blue motors, is run the 496 hos till I got bored then procharge them. Done game over best of both worlds. |
