Mannerfelt designs the HYPERCAT

SportBoatDesign by noli When you have a chance, please watch this video, very interesting father & son designers http://youtu.be/Jj0kbGCGFV4 if you don't have the time to watch, here are my notes from the video “form follows function” “organic design” “sleek in the back” “rounded front” “linkage to old race cars from the 40’s and 50’s” “cockpit is interchangeable to pleasure cockpit by simply removing the hatch” “the black area above the glass is an aftermarket piece to allow the removal of the hatch” “the race boat is the same boat as the pleasure boat” “Ocke’s son, Ted has a car design background and he used his car design background to design the HyperCat” “the deck area around the front sponson has a ‘crease’ both for aerodynamic design and for walking safely on the bow and not slip” “steps between the head rests aid the person when walking to the back of the cat… safely” “the deck has winglets, like the tip of the airplane, built for speed and stability when cruising/racing at speed” “beautiful shapes make for better performance boats” “the engine shield also acts as a splash guard against rushing water so as not to destroy the engines when big water hits the motors” “the hull is very efficient, at 75MPH she’ll burn 3MPG with Verado motors" “the challenge to us when designing the boat is that we have to ‘fit’ the boat to an existing tall power plant” “the motors are tall so we have to design to reduce that drag…the engine shield reduces the aerodynamic drag by 25%" “with this deign, we can recycle old race boats to pleasure boats by simply removing the top hatch” “the first pleasure boat will be built in the first quarter of 2017" https://youtu.be/Jj0kbGCGFV4 |

hull #1 is complete The hull and deck are built all at once without manually glassing the deck and hull the traditional way because the resin is infused, and the hull and deck molds marry together with bolts, the final laminate curing is done with both of the hull and deck together, in closed form https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4560/...d2b69183_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4444/...cae7b22a_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4535/...d1a85991_b.jpg |

well here it is what we've been waiting for Hypercat is launched! Please read up on Swecat Racing in FaceBok. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...baa0985e6c.jpg |

There must be some changes in the bottom technology to have any major break through in speed IMO. Aerodynamics is not going to do it alone IMO. So what is it ?????
|
It looks like a pretty cool modernized version of the Cheetah cat boat from Steve Koss.

Not that I know anything but I was always under the impression that rounded surfaces were stronger.
|
The triangle is the strongest geometric shape. Triangles are very hard to distort from their normal shape because of their fixed angles and ability to distribute force evenly to the other sides. This force is then transferred to adjacent triangles.

Noli, I have not seen anything mentioned about this hull after the first one was built. Did the design not perform as expected?

the cat just fell off from public's eyes. Wish they would show more on the Hypercat. . |
I agree. Swecat was supposed to run one in the XCat series but they dropped out of it. Too bad because the market for this size cat hull is crazy right now and I like the style of it.

How current are these photos Noli? This hull sort of fell off the radar for some reason. That is Eric Stark in the boat. He was running with Swecat in Xcat and they were supposed to use this hull for Xcat but it all fell apart.
