For all my boating friends, West Marine has their electronic flare for $100 - $20 mail in rebate. Considering that this never expires, floats and all you have to do is replace the three C batteries, this will pay for itself in 9 years. i have about 2 dozen old flares, some dating back to the 90's that still look good, but now I will never have to buy them again. The rebate ends today, so if you cant get to the west marine store, at least order it online so you receipt will be marked with today's date. I just bought 3 of them for my three boats.
