Speed docking an old fishing boat takes talent for sure but in reality if it gets a scratch then it is just another story to tell while drinking beer on the docks.....
Looks like Larry Goldman nailed this......we all know Gino would have had a bad luck story to tell if he did this!

Two best close quarters maneuvering tips I've ever received:
1) Don't fight mother nature. Use wind and current to your advantage.
and
2) Don't go any faster than you can afford to pay for the damages!

It's called the Waterman's Rodeo.

It has to do with getting the freshest fish (and related) to market, and get in to the scales/market first to set the pricing. It's kind of a local urban legend thing of lore out here in the heavy fishing towns of the Chesapeake Bay.
Personally, I like the one with the Big Block in it, "Tough Luck II". He WINGS that boat around like no one else does.
I've always wanted to go to the competition. But now I realize I'd rather go to the practice nights!
I know the rudders on many of them are set up with hydraulic rams, which is that big forward/rearward lever they are using.
I think some of them may have custom hydraulic transmissions too, but I am not certain on that.

These days I think it's called Mad Skills. In any case it makes for a good show.
