I am not a Travolta fan, but he did a good job in the OJ movie. Plus, he has that smugness/arrogance about him like Don, so it seems like a good fit.

rak rua 04-06-2017 10:50 AM

If they're gonna use Travolta, they'd better get started on the movie, he's 63 years old already...........:)

If you can surround him with short co stars, or teach him to walk in platform shoes, Mel Gibson can portray a likeable arrogance, with charisma.

Didnt Travolta request a mouth hug or a handy from his massage boy? LOL...Not the guy I would have picked to be the womanizing Don that is for sure.

Russel Crowe and Mel Gibson have the attitude but both need a phone books to sit on to see over the dash. Not as short as Tom Cruise but also not that tall larger than life figure that should portray Don.

Everyone do yourself a favor and watch the documentary on the Indianapolis...over half of it is interviews with veteran survivors. Get your tissues out. It make the movie look like an embarrassment.

Plum_Crazy 04-06-2017 11:32 AM

Vince Vaughn would have been a good choice.

ALL_IN! 04-06-2017 11:43 AM

Travolta was good in the OJ mini-series. He was good in Saturday Night Fever. OK in Grease. That's about it for me.

just want the boats to be right!

phragle 04-06-2017 04:15 PM

Maybe they could get Bobby Saccenti and dye his hair dark..........

Drake22.250 04-06-2017 04:39 PM

Al Pacino would be my vote! Travolta should stick to wild hogs.

AZMIDLYF 04-06-2017 05:25 PM

Pacino is too vertically challenged for the part.

and he is 76 years old!

Scent of a Woman movie (Ferrari scene) was 1992, Heat with Deniro was 1995......both over 20 years ago!

Where is Todd Cimano in all this? Another self promotion?

Who is Todd Cimano? Don't remember that name from the Aronow days.

I thought Swordfish was good, and Broken Arrow - Ain't It Cool!

I don't go watch a movie often in a theater but this would be on I would go to.

jusabum 04-06-2017 10:44 PM

This was another movie that had potential, but they blew it.

I wonder if this movie is finally gonna happen. It has come up a bunch of times in Hollywood over the past 20 years. It was VERY close to getting made about 12 years ago with Ridley and Tony Scot producing. Looked like even Russel Crowe may have been in the run to play Don (since Scotfree pictures had so much success with him in a bunch of movies and they liked working with each other). But then there was some script issues. It went back for a re-write a few times and they couldn't get it right. Then it faded to the back burner again. Scotfree had the rights last I heard. Wonder if they're still involved. I'll have to reach out to a buddy and find out.

On the topic of John Travolta. I'm not a big fan of his acting. Could care less if he likes dudes or believes in some crazy alien god, whatever. 99% of Hollywood is SUPER CRAZY anyway. He just seems to play the same part. he likes playing bad guys and it doesn't work. I met him (and Hugh Jackman and Haley Barrie) while working on the set of Sword Fish. He was very nice to everyone around him. So was Jackman, Barrie was a little more stand-off-ish.

Anyway, If they're getting ready to shoot. There most likely won't be a change in the title role. Stuck with Travolta.

By the way, who's Paul Castro? Says he has close ties to the family and is advising on the script.

^^^^^^^. Halle Berry in Swordfish...... That brings back pleasant memories....... Mmmm........

Interceptor 04-07-2017 08:55 AM

Guessing they won't have much in the movie regarding all the boat companies he started and sold, not that interesting to general public. Thinking more of a dark movie with drug boats, mystery government connections, Kramer and the murder. Maybe a little racing.

"Ben Aronoff".
Sort of lost me a bit right there. As the article suggests, by changing names it gives them license to change the story too. I'll still watch it if it comes to my part of the world, 2 hours of my life and I'm sure there'll be some cool boats!

They showed Travolta in a 36' Pantera that had been painted up as a Cigarette, if they want to shoot it in Thailand, there's a 38' Cigarette getting painted at the moment that might work..........

Ya, good update. I think it's right, if you change the name you have way less chance of legal action against you. But obviously the effort is there to make it look accurate. ie. white Mercedes. etc.
Interesting magazine.

I hope they don't try to pass the Pantera off as the original "The Cigarette" race boat!?!?!?
