Not a big Travolta fan but he can do good work so hopefully it comes out well.

Bad Ass TA WS6 04-04-2017 07:50 AM

Damn been waiting for that movie (or one like it anyways) forever. I agree Travolta blows but I still have high hopes. They better get the other actors correct (the boats)!!!!!

CIG3 04-04-2017 07:53 AM

Will be great to see our sport get some real movie time. Hope they tap Brownie, Bobby Saccenti and others to get the story straight.

phragle 04-04-2017 08:59 AM

Vinny Bobarino as Don, Jaun Epstien as Kramer and Arnold Horshack as the lead FBI agent investigating

hblair 04-04-2017 09:04 AM

Looks interesting.

AZMIDLYF 04-04-2017 09:24 AM

You lost me at Travolta...:(

rak rua 04-04-2017 09:28 AM

Look forward to seeing this movie happen, hope it comes to a cinema near me....

I'm surprised you guys aren't big on Travolta, is it the Scientology thing or you just don't like his movies?

RR

Knot 4 Me 04-04-2017 09:29 AM

Jon Hamm comes to mind as a good choice over Travolta. Anyone else got a better actor in mind?

kreed 04-04-2017 09:37 AM

As a Pulp Fiction fan, I like Travolta in that role.....oh, and my only other thumbs up is Welcome Back Kotter!!!!!!!....... Vinnie Barbarino!

jusabum 04-04-2017 09:54 AM

Every single time they try to do ANYTHING with offshore, they mess it up big time. Travolta has been doing the same kind of movies as Nicholas Cage, so I'm not holding my breath on this on.

I don't like his movies usually and the scientology just ads to it (especially living in there meca area).

Jupiter Sunsation 04-04-2017 10:47 AM

Offshore stuff is tough, look how many bad race car movies are out there. The Miami Vice movie had a reasonable basis to go on (the TV series), decent actors with great boats and it was an ok movie. The Don Aronow movie is going to be based in the 70's-80's and Hollywood will try to over glamorize the selling boats to George Bush and other heads of state vs. the real business of selling boats to local guys that were more "gritty?"

Don't expect "Vinny Barbarino" to get anything right with this movie. His action movies are terrible!

John travolta ,Nicolas Cage.. And then there is Kevin Costner.... Yawn...

Russell Crowe! He has the proper "I don't give a fvck attitude" in all his movies!

Interceptor 04-04-2017 11:07 AM

At least it isn't Tom Cruse.

I think Clooney could play the part better than Travolta. Clooney still has his on-screen coolness, charm and grace and looks. To me Travolta now comes across as used-up.

Clooney? 99% of his movies are box office bombs, its gonna be hard enough for this movie to get any good traction. I say Russel Crowe would be good as Aronow had a larger then life presence, so it needs to be a big presence type guy who stands firm an commands attention.

Wait...I think this is all in vain, they have their guy.

I like Clooney for this roll as well and totally agree with you on travolta

Hustler40 04-04-2017 01:26 PM

I look at the travolta thing as a positive. All though not my favorite he is considered an A list actor. If he is doing this project there is a good chance it is well funded well written etc. face facts, most of the time a motor sports movie is straight to DVD and might be seen after midnight on USA before the crock pot infomercial. I think with him on the board this has a chance of being good.

MonkeySea2 04-04-2017 02:08 PM

I'm more concerned that they get the boats right and lots of them. I don't mind Travolta

phragle 04-04-2017 02:22 PM

Not that don was skinny but travolta is gonna need to eat a few salads to prepare for the role....

AZMIDLYF 04-04-2017 02:42 PM

Sorry, just know a little about Mr Travolta that turns my stomach. I wouldn't mind Gerard Butler or even Josh Brolin..

Josh Brolin could work.... just make him more gritty.

Travolta could play a tall Reggie, they already have matching hair pieces!

Yep

Not a big nicholis cage fan, but came home with the movie " men of courage the Indianapolis story"

Holy Crap , and I mean crap. The special effects from the Movie Torah Tora Tora that was made in 1970 that I had just watched a month prior were 50 times better.

It was like they had a budget of 300 dollars for the special affects so they had to give the job to a 3rd grader ,because they paid nicholis cage all the money but not enough, because he still Suked.

God awful it was , I had to continue watching it just to see how bad it could get. It got worse.

Can't hire Tom Cruise.

He can't see over the fairing.

tommymonza 04-04-2017 02:57 PM

And Clooney can take his Whiney Liberal Azz back to Lake Cuomo , and suk balls.

F-2 Speedy 04-04-2017 03:09 PM

How old is said actor suppose to be in the film ? or is it going to span several years

Tora Tora Tora, that was a movie !

Padraig 04-04-2017 04:06 PM

Hopefully it will be better then the Miami Vice movie. That movie had so much potential and it SUCKED. The plot, the photography, the acting, the music, was all horrible. Can you tell I didn't like it?

Padraig

Interceptor 04-04-2017 04:36 PM

Please do not make it one of those movies like the one with the bald guy and all the cars crashing and exploding, parts 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 etc.

murfman 04-04-2017 06:16 PM

I just watched the OJ mini series with Travolta as Shapiro, and I have ti say he did a good job with that role. He is ok with me as Aronow. Hope the movie is good, and brings the 188th Boats into the limelight. He is much better than Cage IMO.

That was godawful, the best part of the movie was the old pictures of the survivors during the credits.

Donzi540 04-04-2017 10:49 PM

This could be a great movie, but my cynical nature says they will add all the absurdity of a Hollywood racing movie and ruin it. Think "Days of Thunder." I'll look forward to it however, since I'm a Donzi homer...

hogie roll 04-04-2017 11:06 PM

Will def watch with low expectations.

I like Miami vice and the scene where they take mojo to Cuba.

I take it you have read the book. Unbelievable story. Me being a person of the Sea . I can't imagine surviving that amount of time in saltwater with no freshwater and the hazards of endless sharks.

tommymonza 04-04-2017 11:08 PM

And the big Question?

Where is Todd Cimano in all this? Another self promotion?

tommymonza 04-04-2017 11:34 PM

Been into offshore boats and sailboats since 1970.

Still one of the best made movies out there dealing with boats. I know it's sailing and you guys hate it, and from a sailors point of view there is a few Cheesy Whomper moments in it but it was still done incredibly well compared to any other boat oriented movie out there.

https://youtu.be/BywNIZm6GeA

Almost forgot one of the highlights of the movie is a Starship Voyager flying into the movie.

They spent the time to record the peculiar sound that this twin turbine pusher prop plane makes.

My dad lives 2 miles from the airport in Naples Florida. I can hear the one that flys into there every time . Usually jump out of the pool to watch it.

Cool old ride as most of them were crushed.
