Boat shopping. Need help

Hi all. Sold the 28 Advantage V hull yesterday and then realized that all of the boats that I have been drooling over all winter are no longer listed. Here is the short list. 2002 and up models, 32'-35', possibly a small 38, stepped hull, 525 or bigger power. 120K budget. MCOB would be a plus. Needs to be nice and ready to run. Wrong time of the year for a project. What do you have? What do you know of?

V-haul cigar boats with cubby cabins go strait to the top of the list.

ALL_IN! 05-04-2017 10:24 AM

Wow - didn't know you were selling. But I love boat shopping with other peoples money. I'll get right on it ! LOL

ALL_IN! 05-04-2017 10:32 AM

Joe...
This is about all I could find with your specs (LOL!)

Nuke427 05-04-2017 10:54 AM

35 Donzi ZR? That can be had in your price if you like them.

snapmorgan 05-04-2017 11:05 AM

Not really looking for a Fountain. I know that they are a lot of boat for the money and faster than most, but I am looking for a little more room than they have.

Maybe a Donzi, AT, Sunsation, Eliminator, certainly another Advantage, something along those lines. I would love to have a Cig, Nor Tech or Outerlimits, but I realize that my budget probably won't get me there.

Probably my first choice. I had a hardon for the red one with the Ilmor's, but it looks like it must have sold

snapmorgan 05-04-2017 11:14 AM

Dos anyone know anything about this?

There are a few 390 Velocity boats in The OSO classifieds. Nice fast boats and IMO more room then the Fountain.

I wish the one with the flames didn't have the flames. Might be interested

JWay 05-04-2017 03:47 PM

Maybe they will negotiate on price??

I see it is being brokered by Kenny. Give him a call, I am sure he can have it repainted. Kenny was, for many years, the GM at Velocity. Personally I like it the way it is but that's me. With those engines it should be fast.

It is starting to look like I am going to be swimming this year instead of boating. Unless I want a Fountain, Formula or a 496 boat. How are the Formula 353's and 382's? Lots of them for sale, but I have never looked at one in person

mike tkach 05-04-2017 06:37 PM

joe,i am thinking i might sell my fountain,it is a 38 fever with fresh #6 drives, bam 1550 dry sump transmissions and a pair of 1200 hp whipple charged 588s.i have some serious back issues and bouncing around in a boat is not going to make it feel better.also going to sell my 2011 f350 with 25 k on it.i think the harley street glide is also got to go.

snapmorgan 05-04-2017 06:56 PM

Sorry to hear that Mike. Good thing you have that old man cruiser.

A guy I know owns it, bought it last summer, bought a 39 top gun earlier this year and now this one has to go.... its a nice boat

buck183 05-04-2017 10:43 PM

32' Actuve Thunder here on OSO in the classifieds for sale. "Audacity". Boat is aggressively priced in my opinion. I happen to think he's too cheap on it. If I were buying it I wouldn't even haggle on price.

Boat is very well known. Well cared for. Looks like a turnkey boat to me. Any and all history on it can be found here on this site.

I have no ties to boat or owner. Just can't believe it hasn't sold.

ALL_IN! 05-05-2017 07:34 AM

Joe - based on my recent experience, I'd call Ed Champion at LOTO and tell him what you're looking for. He is very resourceful. I sent a friend of mine to him a few weeks ago, and he found what my friend was looking for, at the price he wanted to pay, in about 24 hours. It wasn't on his lot nor brokered, my understanding.

Big Thunder Marine

Indy 05-05-2017 07:40 AM

Big water or flat water boating?

The 38 PP on the classifieds will crush just about anything you throw at it and look good, feel comfortable and have plenty of room at the same time. Probably built better than anything mentioned her too.

Have you talked to Doc Janssen? He's helped a lot of boaters with back issues.

I agree on the 38PP comment above, and also; there are a couple new 37ATs that you will see on the waters around Indiana this season too.

sprsptr 05-05-2017 03:23 PM

There is a nice looking twin step T/G listed in classifieds @ 139k - "Double Take". Very clean, could be yours with some negotiating skills!

snapmorgan 05-06-2017 07:53 AM

I am going to look at that top gun today. Been at LOTO since yesterday looking at boats

sprsptr 05-07-2017 04:50 AM

Good Luck Bud! Gorgeous boat, lot of updates done. Nothing cooler than a Cigarette!

seafordguy 05-07-2017 08:30 AM

I think with that budget it's a simple equation.

Patience+negotiation=T/S TG

Also, somewhere in that equation is resale, which will always be there for a clean Top Gun

snapmorgan 05-07-2017 09:26 AM

I pretty much wore out my welcome at LOTO. Going to Havasu on Tuesday. Took that Eliminator out and liked it, didn't love it. Wasn't impressed with it's speed or ride. Might be able to fix it with some setup work. Made an offer contingent on them doing some paint work. Previous owner was pretty rough on her. Looked at some top guns. I have just about decided that I don't need a boat that big, although they are sexy. Would have to buy a new truck probably. I have a 2015 2500 Duramax.

ToMorrow44 05-07-2017 06:42 PM

34 Advantage.. ? It's a big house of a boat with a ton of room and not gonna outrun much with 496s but well within your budget.

ToMorrow44 05-07-2017 06:50 PM

Advantage has a 32 mcob with 575s listed. Also there's a 34 Shockwave with 525s: http://www.riverdavesplace.com/forum...ight=Shockwave

What's that say at the bottom of your posts...??? THINK BIG...... Your Duramax will haul that TG Cig just fine. I tow the NT with a Ram 2500 no problems.

This is the first boat that I looked at. Very nice, but no trailer and it was still winterized, so I couldn't run it. Owner says that it will run 70, but I am skeptical. The guys at Advantage tell me it is a waste of time and money to put big power in it, It was never meant to go fast.

I am flying to Havasu Tuesday morning to look at the 32 Advantage. I put a deposit on it for them to hold it for me. Still has the original heads, head gaskets and flat tappet camshafts. I wish it was a little newer, but it is supposed to be perfect. I may check out that Shockwave while I am there.

snapmorgan 05-07-2017 11:48 PM

Anyone know of anything else at Havasu? I will be there for a whole 27hrs

ToMorrow44 05-08-2017 06:25 AM

Looks like Shockwave has another 34 in their inventory. But they're in so-cal so not sure if you can swing that on your trip.
http://www.shockwaveboats.com/used_boats.php

33 Hallett you might be able to snag in your price range. I think it's been for sale for a while.
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...335-103034461/

The 32 Advantage ought to run 100 with those upgraded 575s.

gmgearhead454 05-08-2017 06:36 PM

A tad bit smaller then what you are looking at, but have you seen the 2011 30' Sonic Vendetta with the Illmore 625 listed in Las Vegas craigslist? Looks pretty sharp and I'm sure it runs a good number. Just a thought while you're out there. Listed at 99k i believe

sprsptr 05-09-2017 07:09 AM

Hey snapmorgan, When you are making a significant purchase like a high performance boat, the total cost of ownership should be considered. Most of the boats you have mentioned are well suited to your needs. My opinion is to try and avoid regional or "trendy" manufacturers or designs. Also, while Ilmor's may be good, limited parts availability issues and the cost to maintain and service a Viper power plant will be higher than a BB Chevy. The resale value of a brand like Cigarette, O/L, Fountain, Donzi etc. may also be a consideration. It is delusional to call our purchases "investments", however less of a beating, and a rapid sale the next time around is a nice perk! Just my thoughts Bud!

fasthawk6 05-09-2017 12:47 PM

I know you don't what a 496 boat but the 06 and up twin step 32 sunsation would meet your needs pretty well. They will run 83 to 85 any day of the week. I am assuming you do a lot of boating on the river since you live in Evansville. I don't know if you have checked on insurance yet but mine was going to be triple on the 525 boat I was looking at over the 496 h.o boat.
