Rusty Rahm, is a patient that had a substantial compression on his cervical spinal cord., and was fortunate that it was treatable. He traveled to Denver and I reconstructed his neck with the most advanced surgical technology ( total disc replacement). He is a very passionate racer, talented business professional and dedicated family man. He is very healthy and it was an honor to watch him and Jeff Harris compete last weekend, in a short time following surgery.

In the past 2 years I have treated >50 patients that are active performance boaters, boat builders, and more than a dozen active offshore boat racers.

Interestingly, that a few months ago Mr Reggie Fountain Sr, and I , spent the evening discussing the unique performance boater kinematics that increases the stress/strain on both the cervical and lumbar discs.

Many of us that aggressively take the “big waves”, we fit for a custom lumbar orthosis (brace), that can be inflated to offload the impacts/strain on the
spine core muscles and intervertebral discs, when in the boat.
