Default AO 3100 vs 28 Daytona

Looking at these 2 boats.Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. Will be used in the Gulf in Florida mostly in the intercostal but some on the outside. 2 most important things are Reliability and Ride..Top speed is of no importance to me but the speed where they Hop is important to me

I think I would prefer normally aspirated and speedmasters over procharged and bravos. Just so happens that I like the Daytona better anyway so that would be a no brainer for me assuming similar condition.

I would normally agree a motor with prochargers wont last as long as NA but the 502 with EFI if properly set up seems pretty reliable. I think the IMCO lowers are plenty strong for that power level. The Other boat, has motors that I am not familiar with. Not sure what kind of valve train it has or how often that has to be adjusted. I also dont have any knowledge about sportmasters.

The daytona has bravo drives with sportmaster lowers not speedmaster drives. So the drive difference is a wash. If those 540 mercruiser big blocks have any documentation would decide if i thought about the daytona or not. Also if the seller can figure out its not a donzi i dont think i woukd trust any of their knowledge. Also i think the American offshore has a better paint scheme

Daytona is a center pod and may not be as good in bigger water, although they really are well behaved and do not have any hop that I remember. The 3100 I have no idea what it has for a porpoise but it is a true cat so I am assuming it does porpoise.

if you go out to the gulf I would go for the american offshore as it has no center pod and ride better in the rough but could have more hop but dont know where it is on those I would go for a test ride in both boats so you can feel the difference yourself and also experience the differents in boat .

I was stoked on a 28 daytona low profile a few years ago , until I had a test drive ! It was gone soon as I stepped in the boat because you sat very high in it due to the low profile deck .

It will depend on your type of boating. If you boat in rougher water the AO will be better. I had one and it was a great 92-94 mph boat with 500efi's. Porpoise zone was around 80-85 depending on water conditions and X dimension setup. Cabin space may be better in the AO if that matters.

I can't really speak for the Eliminator other than a buddy of mine had one and it was really good in clam water, rough water was not so good.

If you go with you AO feel free to PM me. I have played around with the setup on it and learned a few improvements with drive heights and props.

Good luck.

I have an extremely clean and fast 2003 28 tall deck Daytona for sale in the classifieds at close to the same price but in my opinion way more boat. The 31 would do better in Rough Waters but my boats with extension boxes seems to do great in two to three foot rough turned up slop and the ride kills and American offshore as you have absolutely no purpose or hop at any speeds it's also a much better built boat with more attention to detail Etc the 3100 that I have seen need dash updating and cabin updates
