Agreed that if you build a potato chip boat with nobody in it running on fumes, you will probably get to 110 with 400s - even with a large sponson inboard 36' hull. What I'm getting at, is that in real-world boating conditions - four adults, 100 gallons of fuel on board, these big cats w/ 400s are not fast - the passenger and fuel weight kills them. In my opinion, all these 34'-36' cats with twin 400s are going to be underpowered turds - so I'll just stay out of the whole conversation. Now, when Mercury releases the next generation of higher horsepower motors, the performance of the bigger cats will get much better!

I think it is going to be a challenge and we are definitely hoping for the release of the larger motors to. The new bigger bore and more hp motors will help these big cats get to where they can hit those numbers a lot easier and not be the dogs they are now.

My contract on this first boat is that it has to run 110 mph or faster, not be a potato chip and run this number with the new owner, myself and 50 gallons per side. It is a big boat to do this with, but I love the challenge. I might be owning me a new 36 when it is all said and done. Thanks

Let's just say any boat V or cat , If it was rigged for a high top speed of say 110 mph unloaded I would estimate that with a load of 4 people plus fuel you will be running in the 100 mph zone + or - at full throttle , with a cruise speed of 80 to 85 mph Now for me this would be plenty fast but for some they mite need QUAD 400's :) :) :)

Quad's will do it :) :) :)

The 36 was already a pretty wide boat, if you add 24 inches to the tunnel are you widening the whole boat that much or narrowing the sponsons?

BTW I just want to be clear that while a bit skeptical on what the day to day top speed numbers will be I'm very excited to see how this boat will turn out and wish everyone involved the best of luck. The only way our sport / hobby evolves is when people try new things and the 30 and 36 Spectre's are great boats that with a few new ideas could be made even better. I'll be waiting on updates and looking forward to build pics.

We will be using a Jack plate. Probably a 6" set back. Thanks
