Bye bye Merc 700

Mercury is ending production of the 700SCi as of 12-31. No more orders accepted after 11-17. Replacement is the 860.

Wildman_grafix 10-30-2017 02:55 PM

The more they can move current motors to their proprietary platform the more money they can make on parts.

To many aftermarket parts for the BBC.

F-2 Speedy 10-30-2017 03:05 PM

There will always be after market BBC in boats, it doesn't need to be black, blue or orange to make power and be reliable......but the 700 package stood the test of time well.

What's pricing like for the 860? And will they sell just the engine without the #6? I'm guessing the answer to that is no.

snapmorgan 10-30-2017 04:29 PM

You can build a 700 for half of what Merc wants for one anyway. Who cares?

Roughly $60-70k more per set I was told. I could've waited but I liked the 700s and the difference almost paid for my whole F650.

Merc getting rid of the I/O market one day at a time.

Motor was a dinosaur that nobody was buying anyway. The cat builders will use the 860 as the base offering, the bigger V bottoms will do the same. The only boats left out would be like a 39 Cig or OL 41 that wanted 1400 HP vs. going to a pair of 565's (too small). A "entry level" offering from Cig/OL/Fountain will use the 540/565. Boats like the 33/37 AT's were pretty much using the 525-565 power anyway (AT built 3 700 boats). The extra money really hurts the entry level price point.

Really...........so why was Cash Bar looking for some to put in his kitty cat.

JaayTeee 10-30-2017 06:54 PM

If there is a want for something in the 700 range, I’m shure they could dumb down the 860s to that level

MDG_Jason 10-30-2017 07:44 PM

Announcing the discontinuation of the 700 on the same day the 750hp SB4 automotive engine is released to the public? Coincidence? I certainly hope not but only time will tell!

FASTTIMES 10-31-2017 09:30 AM

Does merc release production numbers for each offering? Just curious how many 700's, 1075's ect ect are out there

PremierPOWER 10-31-2017 03:11 PM

That sucks, they finally filled the 400hp gap with the 860 and then just opened a big gap back up.

They are ideal for a smaller cat and he didn't want to wait for the 860......so he got a deal on some 700s and had the boat running for the summer events.

F-2 Speedy 10-31-2017 05:03 PM

Or he wanted blowers..:D... in a proven package, and save the 60-70K to put towards his mini bike restoration...........

44MTI 11-01-2017 09:31 AM

So What is the price for an 860 without drive, if you can buy it that way.

hardcore 11-01-2017 12:03 PM

The 700 with a number 6 drive is an awesome somewhat afordable low maintenace package that should be kept . It looks like the 860 with a number 6 will be awesome and low maintence as welll but the extra 70 to 80 grand will be hard for a lot of people to take when ordering a new boat. The jump from the 700's to 1100 was over 110000 when I ordered my boat, now the jump from 565 to 860 will probably be around the same or more. To most people, myself included 100000 is a lot of money and is a big step between packages.

bburgessz71 11-01-2017 12:37 PM

waiting for a merc repower program 700 swap to 860s

mikebrls 11-01-2017 01:56 PM

your better off with custom motor's and the sell boat down the road with no power :)

getreal 11-01-2017 02:03 PM

I have a friend that has 2 700's with #6 drives 1:35 ratio.
Brand new in crates. For Sale

phil_p999 11-01-2017 03:59 PM

Personally, I think Merc should keep the 700SCI and space their N/A motors out a bit more. 520-540-565? too close. Should be a 650-675 N/A in the mix instead of the 20hp jumps.

strugglinToolSalesMan 11-01-2017 06:11 PM

So if the 700sci is being replaced with a natural aspirated 860... is that the end of blowers / Whipple's ????
What engine can you currently get from mercury that is boosted ... other then then super expensive 1100's / 1350's / etc they are turbo...

I think the 600 is still in production.
