Yup, I learned that lesson. When I redid mine I said any surface at the top has to be black.

BEFORE and constantly cleaning :

This year I changed out the Faring strips to black also.

If I were to do it a 3rd time I`d eliminate white all together .

There are several generations, types, and manufacturers of "carbon fiber" vinyl. The latest stuff to the market over the past 2-3 years is far, FAR better than the stuff early on in the 2005-2006 range. Some stuff is actually "pressed" into a pattern, while others are individual strands of material woven together and they glued to a backing. IME, the stuff that is woven, then glued is WORSE than the pressed type, as the woven type can snag, pull, and scratch much easier.

Many local shops, not just the bigger/better marine shops have a sample book that you can look through. As such, you can see the edges in the sample book to see the construction. When the owner isn't looking, take your car key or fingernail to the sample in the book up near the binding to see what I mean about scratching/damage. (Relax, it's just a sample book.)

I have done many boats in the White Carbon Vinyl. They have all held up well. The 1993 Top Gun was done at Fineline in Florida I kept it clean with 303 cleaner and conditioner. Anytime that it got some dirt, I cleaned it with soapy water and a small nail brush. No problems. Here is a picture of the Mini Cigarette, This also had White Carbon Fiber, My wife did the Vinyl Work on this. Held up, and stitched great.

I have always purchased my vinyl here......Upholstery Fabric - Outdoor Fabric - Upholstery Supplies

I have used endurasoft....Carbon fiber, Bright Ralley White

I have also used the ultra suede, In the Playboy

I often get Pearl for my retro boats that I have redone, did that in the Mistress.

Check out the Morbern, Wave product:
http://morbern.com/product/559

Craig Barrie brought this material to light in the metallic orange Donzi ZRC. It's beautiful.
I had this material used to redo the interior in my 17' cat; but I have no installed it yet and can't comment on wear.

Met a guy this summer with a 42' Fountain. (Brian Guiducci - some of you may know him).

But he had his (factory) white vinyl sections replaced with pearl white carbon fiber vinyl. I'm sure it's difficult to keep clean, but it looked fantastic!

Unfortunately anything other than white is going to be a tough sell in the florida sun/heat. Sometimes I can barely touch my standard white vinyl when it's been exposed to the sun out on the water. I couldn't imagine black, might as well be a stove top. Glad it works for those farther from the equator.
