searched "using tape for a fiberglass mold", and in this case think it is to protect the boat.

this is another thread i hope gets updated all the way thru bonding the new deck on

PVA would do the same.
PVA is a spray on chemical that dries to form like a plastic wrap . Plus it is water soluble so it simply washes off with water.

And once they build the mold, should they ever need a new deck - or portions of a new deck - they have just the tooling! Smart move from a first class team!
