Appx. ten years ago a friend and another person were drift fishing in the St. Clair river when a very large sailboat running on the engine ran over their small boat. This was a Friday prior to the races and one of the OPA race boats was out running, saw what happened and picked up my friend who was in the river. The other guy was pinned between the sail boat and the dash of the fishing boat but eventually feed himself and another boat later pick him up. The sailboat under power eventually dislodged and continued down the river as if nothing ever happened until the police that were called intercepted them way down stream. They acknowledged they never saw the boat or knew they hit it.

This is way too common , last summer my daughter's boyfriend and another young man along with a 10 yr.old were walleye fishing at Stockton lake when a 24 ft. open bow sliced their rental fishing boat in half. They had just setup to drift fish about 100 ft. off the shore and saw the boat in enough time to jump out but didn't have time to restart and get out of the way.
The driver of the open bow was playing with the fuses under his dash and didn't listen to the kids in the open bow yelling at him as they ran over the fishing boat. Although the driver was charged and his insurance has compensated the boys and the rental company I fear he can still boat on any water he wants to.
