Very sad news!
I really feel for All the people 'down there' who's enjoyed this epic race for such a long time. Wish they would have been able to continue, maybe with some restrictions on the power of the boats. Water skiing 130 mph on a winding river is really on the edge! In our Catalina Ski Race, Long Beach, California, the single outboard class, (Formula II Outboard), is nowadays very popular. Gives the regular gals & guys a shot at running on their own term$. Just watched this short video a couple of months ago. May they be able to bring the race back.

Wow!
That sucks!!
I heard they enacted a speed limit.
I wanted to go to see the hardware as much as I did the actual race.
Their rigs are over the top.
Even the trailers are full zoot.

Was stuck in a non productive funk for a month.....
I think I’m back.
Back at it again trying to get the bracket finished to hang the motors and test float it.
Figure that should be the kick in the ass I need.
Glued the bottom panel on the bracket and used some sheet wax to make a mold for the mounting flange which I laid up tonight.
Hope to bond it to bracket in next day or two then start slinging some glass at it.

Back on track, good to see some more progress.
Last derail then I'll shut-up..... Google Southern 80 ski race, not quite as big as the bridge but still crazy fast ski racing. I lost a friend to the Southern 80 in 1987. (Ashley, still remember you mate
)

Had friends down there trying to talk me into coming down for the bridge race.
Coulfnt get past the 20 hr plane ride😳
3 is about my max w/o being heavily medicated 😉
I like the Aus attitude though.
Kinda like America before we became a bunch of liability driven, pussies.
Did I already note that the Isle of Mann is also on the list 😎
When I started seeing capsules in the kneel down boats I used to race....., I knew I was done.

Yep.
Followed it back in the ‘80’s when I was ate up w/bikes.
It was/is so dangerous, our best road racers wouldn’t even go.
Used to be rumor that Island legend Joey Dunlap pitted one time and had scrape marks on his helmet from getting so close to the old stone buildings in the town section!
Couple yrs ago a bike mag did a section on it.
One story was a guy that went over to be a course marshal.
W/a 39 mile course they need tons of them.
The guy was working w/another marshal on an island in middle of town.
Wrote in the story that a side car passed so close he could see in their eyes.
Ten mins later they can on their radios and red flagged the course.
Both guys on the side car hr just saw were killed!
Another American guy went there and raced.
Its so remote that there’s no way to practice.
This guy got all the videos he could and learned the course that way.
Went over, raced and survived.
After he finished and pulled in the pits, he threw up!
Said he’d never been that scared and would never do it again.
One more race that I can’t believe still goes on.
Last few yrs was on cable.
Balls of stone.
And yeah, you could go through a 6 pack watching all the YouTube videos.
(RIP)

You must be the same age as me,RIP Joey. He was the king of that race.
I know what you mean about bike crazy, when I first moved from N Indiana to Indianapolis I only had a bike for transportation for 5 years. The looks I would get at a grocery store when it was snowing out and I had a helmet in the cart was priceless.
