Matt,
It sounds like your mom was one tough cookie and very proud of Matt Trulio! Sorry for your loss.

With devoted readers hard to come by, the loss of one in particular really hits home, Although]https://speedonthewater.com/in-the-news/commentary/5088-farewell-loyal-reader.
Although not divorced, we had a similar upbringing in Houston in our family with the "absolutely you're goin' to college" and them saving their pennies to do it. My father was an immigrant from Eastern Europe who got here broke but married a good woman and both worked to support me and sis. Like you we had sarcasm and politics as a second language! I sure related to that! I lost them both about a year apart. So sorry for your loss. Always think about them during the day, I do. Oh, and the similarity is not over... my parents used the garbage man analogy too!!! May she rest in peace.

Matt sorry about your loss.
For you to even come up here plus write a story about your Mom says alot about her and you. I mean this in a very positive way.
As we ourselves age so do our parents. That day comes for all of us when age out weighs life, with that said 89 years of age hopefully was a long lived very happy life plus it seems her children turn out very well. That alone most parents would be very proud of. Sounds like your Mom was a very proud mother.
