Interesting comments around the beam. The Renegade has a 9' beam, which I like from a towing perspective, (I don't think you need permits) and Sunsation has a 10' beam. I'm assuming at 10' you begin to run into issues.

I agree that irrespective of cost an MTI/NorTech/Statement are probably better boats, but the question was vs.Sunsation.

Again, Im assuming Renegade/Sunsation are far less expensive. Is this correct? What's list price on a Statement or Nortech?

Mystic, MTI, Statement or Nor-Tech will be probably 2-3x the cost - if not more (I am assuming you mean new).

Some good input on the speed/twinsTripps discussion so I'll add my experience. Although an old boat with old engines, the Fountain 34 I owned had triple 275's. Factory speed quoted 68+ and I regularly ran mid 60's with people fuel and gear on board. Hit 68 a couple of times with a light load. Just for laughs, one day I tilted the center engine all the way up (tie bar allowed for trimming independently) and running the outer engines, she was slower on the plane but not bad and still hit 58-59 with plenty of fuel and two people.

The set up for a twin engine boat is different to a triple, engine spacing, props etc but even with a bad setup and carrying the extra weight of the third engine, I only lost about 6-7 mph. There's only two reasons for triples on a boat around that size (IMO) and that's outright speed, which is rarely used and bragging rights when you pull up next to a twin engine boat.

Another interesting fact, the 38' with a wider beam and about 1,000 lbs heavier than a 34' is actually a little faster with the same power. Go figure?

Big Thunder had that trip 400 38 statement priced right around $400k. You can definitely buy a statement a bit cheaper than a Sunny or NorTech.

I wouldn’t want anything shorter or narrower than my boat which is 35’ x 9’2”. They get too tight around the console when narrower and the seating gets tight when going shorter as they still maintain the same basic layout.
