All depends on how your engine is setup and you should run what the engine builder suggests. I have Teague Custom Marine 1,250 motors in my boat for example and TCM sets them up to run literally no temps on the water and oil. Temp does not register on gauges. No thermostats on the oil coolers. No water issues in the oil.

You don’t see any temp on the water or oil temp gauges at all? My water temp will read like 130 or so, not a lot but enough that it’s registering on the gauge. I’m surprised nothing on the oil temp just based on the ridiculous load on these motors, hence having the giant oil cooler from Teague. I don’t have an oil temp gauge so not sure what mine runs at, I’ll hit it with a temp gun next time I’m out.

My water gauge starts at 100 and oil at 140 and neither register. The only time they register is after shutting the motors down and they heat soak and I go to restart, then for a few moments they will register.

TCM runs 2 big plate type oil coolers for each motor on my setup then another plate cooler for each transmissions.
