Fall boat projects - who's doing what?
Summer is coming to a close - for me that means it is not Sahara hot and I can get some stuff done on the Swamplizard:
Project 1: Remove old AC and replace it with 12-volt system, build larger "house" battery bank, and install 60 Amp charger Project 2: Clean up Merc 454 Mags: Replace circ pumps, refresh heat exchangers, install larger oil coolers, replace ALL hoses, bigger fuel pumps, longer Gils risers with EFI ports in em and add blowers with Holley 1050s. Project 3: Add solar panels to bimini for extended trips battery maintenance Project 4: Touch up all top deck paint and get her wrapped (wife has ice cream shop so thinking giant waffle cone with company logo) What are you boys up to? |
I must deal with this bad section of floor before I can install the new power . Finding it very difficult to find the proper plywood anywhere near me .

I bought a 2002 Fountain Lightning out of Montana that has some pretty significant damage to it. That is going to keep me busy all winter (remove all interior, engine's, drives, shorten windshield and paint entire boat.) I can't post a picture until I have more posts.

New interior for our Mastercraft X2, Eleanor our 28 ZXO gets new indicator cables and I’m always tinkering with our all original 1985 ChrisCraft Scorpion. It has a gilion hours on it, but it is dry boat house kept and never touched other than regular maintainance. We are very fortunate freshwater operation and heated/cooled boathouse. Makes a huge difference. |
New Transom after I get caught up on being the executor for a friend of 33 years, who happened to be a hoarder.
|
Winter will be spent fixing the trailer. Mainly cosmetic and new lighting upgrades. Luckily the boat fits in the garage and has functional lifting eyes. Just need to fab some dollies.
|
Really really really hoping I can leave well enough alone for an off-season.
|
As of yesterday, for the 1st time in 30+ yrs with our boat, trailer & truck are now winterized and everything is at 100%....not even a loose screw or broken bolt. Looking forward to breaking something this Spring. With sport boats, if nothing breaks you aren’t running hard enough. Ben |
Getting the new purchase home and getting it perfect for pulling out in the spring. |
Trying to add 7 feet, mostly in the bow........ |

I may have to do the interior. The cockpit is starting to show some dry spots. I also need to have a new cover made or see if the one I have can be repaired
|
Rebuilding two outboard powerheads and replacing trailer fender. Thx god it's little stuff this year
|
Going to re-do the teak in the cabin
|
Only routine maintenance (winterize, fluid changes, check valve lash, leakdown check, etc) ...........fingers crossed.........lol
Hopefully I dont find anything during my leakdown checks. |

After rebuilding the engine in '16 and the drive in '17 I hope to be doing nothing in '18! Although I do like the thought of adding 7'! :boat:

Man these emails get me MOTIVATED to get out there and sweat my Azz off and get-her-done!
Swamplizard has all kinds of crap going on in parallel: - Heat exchangers serviced and tested this week and are ready to go in after the blowers. -New water circulation pumps arrived today! -New oil coolers primed this week and ready for final paint! -Weiand 177s with intakes and carbs are half-way here thanks to AMAZING Toledo Ohio Guys from this forum!!! (Need to clean em, paint em, and add fuel PSI gauges to em) -Really cool Dude in Melbourne FL donated 2 sets of Gil rizers that are 4-feet long (no reversion for me!) - picked em up this week and he refused beers or dinner - gotta figure out a way to repay the man - pay it forward I guess? -12-Volt A/c system is mounted - old one is out, pump, hoses, and house battery's await final install and test -60-amp charger mounted and tested .... wiring clean up this weekend -Pair of battery isolators arrived - ready to mount this weekend -Buddy is making wideband O2 plates for me so I can keep an eye on A/F ratios once blowers go in -Blower to intake gaskets arrived today.....still waiting on intake to head gaskets. -cooler plugs arrived yesterday -All fuel lines and filters etc are now 1/2-inch or more. -waiting on new impellers for raw water and not sure if I should upgrade mechanical fuel pumps yet (hence the gauges) Gonna be really sore on Monday but .... ready to rock! |
I’m just hoping I get the time to finally use the fountain I bought last fall lol. You guys are way ahead of me. |
