If you have drive trim thats not operating but you can hear a click on the trim pump when someone hits the switch, it could def be a solenoid. If you want to run a test you can bypass the solenoid and run a jumper wire. Attach one end to the main power wire (red) and the other to either up (blue) or down (green) on the trim pump.
If the drive moves then solenoid is most likely bad. they come in all shapes and sizes so see what you have and google search. Here is a common Merc Solenoid.
