Merc was going to lose global mkt share if they didnt do away with the Opti’s, due to the ban on 2 strokes in larger to most of Europe. The V8’s will need many more miles to be put on them before you can expect a large increase in HP from this new platform. If you study the evolution of the I6 Verado, it took Merc over 10 years to get from the initial HP offering to where they are now. Expect at least that from the new V8’s before any major HP increases. The ROS I6 is reportedly running a sleeveless full cast block in the current displacement thats being offered for sale now. The bored out version is being tested in the Dubai region of the world.

The 7Marine engines do not have a lower unit designed for speeds over 80 MPH. Also, 7Marine does not have a dealer network even close to Merc so parts and service would be a nightmare.
