Thank you for that info! Being a pale skin Ginger who loves the sun, I have many ruined t-shirts and board shorts from sunscreen!

Its the avobenzone reacting with rust in hard water (like a sponge). Bar Keepers Friend (oxalic acid) made into a paste and then washed with whites also works well for the stains.

For mildew I use white vinegar or benzoyl peroxide and sunlight.

I use simple green but add some bleach to it. Follow up with protectant for the stitching.
