Boating Accident Biscayne Bay
Does anyone have any more info on this. Google searched and couldn't find anything. Channel Seven news reported this morning about an accident yesterday on Biscayne Bay, looked like a 30ft Skater with outboards. There was only one person on board that was rescued by a good samaritan and was taken to the hospital but no word on condition. According to a witness the "Cigarette boat" blew over backwards and flipped in the air. Hope they have a speedy recovery.

It did NOT blow over backwards. boat was a 32 DW.
|
Cannot confirm exact size but someone from down there said it was 360. Could have been 32? After watching it again definitely looks like 32
|
It is definitely a 32.
|
Hope the drive is ok and boat looks to be in "ok" condition.

Prayers for the driver....the eye-witness made it sound like a blow over. The rear defiantly took a hard hit, from the looks of that tie bar. |
Is that Yves Belanger's DW? Hope all are ok.
|
Best of luck to them and speedy recovery if need be.
Hope nothing too serious. |
I hope everyone is ok as well. If that is Yves of Avatar Skater and Razz Fountain he has years, more likely decades of experience. Met him at TNT years ago.
|
Almost looks like the tie bar caught something in the water at a high rate of speed.

The motors would have to turn outward to do that.
He probable went air born and landed stern first on one side.more than the other. |

The speculation when these things happen never seems to stop amazing me .... sure hope whomever was in this boat is well. |
So Yves Belanger had another boating incident in Miami? |
He’s being released from the hospital today |
Prayers for a full recovery. Boat looks amazingly well considering, a testament to the build quality no doubt.
|
Dude likes to run his sh!t hard. Hope for a healthy recovery.

Glad to hear Yeves is ok. I have bent one tie bar and sheared the end off another after launching off a wake and landing one one sponson before the other. The shear was due to metal fatigue the other was when the mid came out of the cradle after launch. Bungeeing my drives into the cradle solved one problem. Metal fatigue is hard to determine without magnifluxing. Tiebars are easy to fabricate and cheap from a material standpoint. I never understood the high costs for tiebars and associated components.
|
If a long time powerboat owner (of epic boats I might add) has trouble running an 800 HP small cat, then I'm smart enough to realize I certainly don't have the talent to do it!
Bring back the old heavy straight bottoms and leave the top speed runs to the guys with the helmets on. |

While it’s certainly not related to the accident, I’m thinking larger diameter material might be in order on a tie bar of that length. |

I was not talking about prop rotation but the fact that the engines had to turn outward to bend the tie bar.
Like I said the boat probably came down stern first on one side driving that motor over against the other bending the tie bar. Just like push rods - larger diameter and or thicker material. |

Spoke to a friend of Yves. He's fine. Broken vertebra, will heal. Like some people deduced, boat caught some air, came down funky on a sponsor. Didn't go over.
|
By the way, this might be one of the best videos of all time (the unedited Razz video). The end when they come into Biscayne and nail it. Those motors are SCREAMIN'!! Music to the ears!! Sofa king bad azz.

This guy lives the way many of us dream (well, at least me!) He's got vids where he's out alone, not out to impress any passenger, just running hard by himself for the joy of it...friggin awesome!
I loved going out alone...no BS to deal with, just nice and simple, go where I wanted, how I wanted, when I wanted, just you and the boat and the water...nice! |

Those are awesome video's and really inspiring as corny as that sounds. Inspiration to work harder to get that bigger, nicer boat. Inspired me thru college as well. Was the perfect inspiration for studying all day and night. |
I spend 95% of my time boating alone. Me time. More boaters should try it sometime. Screw all the booze, biotches and dead weight. A Hotrod, Carcraft, Rod and Custom and some rough water.

Same here I boat about 90% alone, BUT for different reasons, my wife's neck is too jacked-up for her to go boating anymore, and all the kids have left home...... |
