Fuel cost difference of same boat with 1 engine vs 2
I understand this is probably impossible to accurately estimate. But ball park. If my 25' wellcraft with 1 ×454 costs $40 per day. Any clue of the cost if it had 2 ×454's? My uninformed guess would be 25% more. But the answer will help me in my next boat choice. Thanks

Just a guess but i reckon a little more, around 40-50% extra.
Iv'e run singles and twins, but not on the same boat and the twins use a lot more gas. We keep telling ourselves it's only a little bit more, relative to the power upgrade and tend to lose sight of the actual amount because of that one word..... "relative".

If you drop a thousand pounds in a boat it’s going to consume more fuel. If you drop an anchor (drive) off the transom it will burn a good deal more fuel. Now that anchor has to earn its keep by burning even more fuel.

There are very few of the same size makes/models of boats that come with either a single or twins.
My 32 AT gets over 1.5 mpg with twin 502mpi's in smooth water.
My 28 Pantera got around 1.25mpg with a single 525SC bumped to around 560hp.
If you are using $40 worth of fuel (10-15 gallons) in a day, then any mpg difference is not worth worrying about.

My experiences are similar to Griff's when you are talking about a larger size single versus a 4-5 foot larger boat with twins. The gas burn wasn't that different, and sometimes the twins even got better mileage assuming you aren't reporting WOT numbers. You may want to calculate your MPG burn of your current boat. $40 a day doesn't tell us anything about efficiency. Lots of folks here can tell you their MPG experience of boats you might be interested in. I had a 32 Sunsation dominator with twin 454 mags that got 2MPG at 45-50 MPH cruise. It got 1MPG at WOT. My Current NT got 1.5 MPG at 45-50 MPH cruise with twin Verado 300s. Upgraded power this summer to 400s and the same 45-50 MPH cruise burn rate is 1.9 MPG.

I have made multiple trips to a spot on our home lake that is 60 miles each way in my 28 Advantage with a single 700 and also in my 35 Nordic with a pair of 700's. At cruise speed, which is different for each boat, the fuel burn is almost identical. It takes about 80 gallons total.
