i have an outboard and with the new V8 250r and 300R with the larger diameter gearcase... tradition props that worked well on our optimax no longer hook up well enough.
can you guys explain
Maximus 5 (15 diameter) says labbed?
vs
Max 5 (15.25” diameter) says labbed?
Cnc 5 blade cleaver super pricey....
They seem to be a staple on your big blocks but are new to us clamp on guys.

What boat is it and which actual engine do you have? Wildman, aka Randy Corson of Liberator Boats setup a 21 Liberator with the first 300R and had the best performance with the Merc Racing CNC 5 blade cleavers. You can read the thread on his testing on ScreamAndFly.com

I have an allison xb21 2+2 with 250xs, 1.75 sportmaster
run 28 promax 86 at 6300 limiter
run 30 promax 91 at 6300 limiter
run 32 bc4 93.8 at 6000
All approx 1” above pad
10” setback
recently added dbr ecu kit and need to retest max speeds

Can't answer your questions 100% but I will try.
A stock Maximus is 15 ⅝" diameter, so the labbed one you are looking at has had the diameter cut to 15", most likely the diffuser ring removed and blades thinned and sharpened. All by hand by a person with lots of experience.
Don't know what a Max 5 starts as, but similar treatment except maybe 15.25" is the original diameter.
CNC 5 blade is cut on a CNC machine from a block of metal, so stronger and more precise than the others and significantly more expensive. These do seem to be faster by 3-6 mph when we are talking about 100+ mph boats.

Hey,
I gained 4 mph with a Max5 25 pitch over a Rev4 25 pitch. Now top speed is 89 mph spinning 7,060 rpms and with the propshaft 2 inches above the bottom. 12 inches setback. Phantom 25 1984 model. 400R engine.
We expect to get 90 mph in the spring and better condtions.
The Max5 is made to run high. You need that to get the speed with the large sportmaster gesrcase. CNC cleaver should be 3-6 mph faster than Max5, but I presume you loose cruisespeed.
check out merc racing blog about the max5.
cheers Toffen
