Countdown To Miami: Cigarette Teaser No. 3—‘Why Six?”

A little more pre Miami Boat Show fun from Cigarette Racing Team, https://speedonthewater.com/in-the-n...r-no-3-why-six.

Now that this is out in public, I'll chime in.

This all started at the Cigarette Rendezvous a few years ago. Cig customer said "Skip I want 6", Skip said "I can't fit 6", Cig customer said "make it happen". Apparently after a lot of work and dollars spent, Skip made it happen:coolcowboy: Congrats to all involved, I'm sure it will be a BEAST.

And to answer the why 6 question................Because they couldn't fit 7:evilb:

:) Cigarette definitely has been more aggressive with its reveals in advance of this year's show.

This is where Cigarette separates themselves from the pack.

rak rua 01-31-2019 08:30 PM

I'm sure the new boat will be a total beast but six engines? I'd need to be even more insane than I currently am (and quite a bit wealthier) to even consider 5 engines, let alone 6. :)

6 outboards is innovation? sad.

TexomaPowerboater 02-01-2019 12:28 PM

Yeah I don't get it. Wish someone would come up with outboards integrated into the transom on a go fast application like the Sea Ray Venture 37.

Canuck B Crazy 02-01-2019 01:31 PM

Six isn't that innovative. Add in the Cigarette/AMG theme. One word: Boring!

Probably because its getting harder and harder for things to stay a secret with social media these days. There were pictures of this boat posted on FB (Boat Owners United I believe) a month or 2 ago.

Yes it is. Cigarette's pre-Miami marketing campaign (and I've seen a few) is a lot more aggressive this year, and the presence of social media as it affects "reveals" surely entered the discussion among the marketers. Cigarette has a very smart agency.

On the other hand, to borrow from a friend, if you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got. Cigarette's Skip Braver isn't afraid to try things—and change them up.

I'm curious as to why some folks are convinced the boat in the story in this thread is the Cigarette-AMG boat. :)

Jeepers. I swear I’ve seen it all. Next they will put them in front of each other with drive shaft connecting the two together at the prop. Lol. Then you could do twelve. , oh yea baby. I’m on to something here.

rak rua 02-05-2019 02:29 AM

Wonder if the two outer motors will have the same warranty as their team mates. :)
Could get a bit of a belting sitting out there?

Would suck to rip that rigging tube off on the corner of a dock. Fuel and electrons going everywhere.

TYPHOON 02-05-2019 09:35 AM

So how do you park something like that with 6 motors ? Not so sure parents are going to let there kids dock the boat any more LOL

I have a real question, how would you control or stop a single motor of the group from over revving? Boats rock and roll. I can see one of the outside motors coming out of the water... a lot. What do you do when you make a turn at speed? If you turn to port the starboard side of the transom is going to lift. The harder you turn the higher it goes. I mean a group in the middle of the transom is one thing, on the very outside....I don't get it.

who said this was an AMG theme boat ? Because I'm pretty sure based on everything I've seen the new 59 w 6 OB's is NOT going to be an AMG boat

Terranna translates to "running water." The Frank Lloyd Wright house also took its name from that.

rak rua 02-05-2019 08:49 PM

I guess we can kill the rumor it was going to be a 'tender' to the owner's larger vessel.

Sexy sextuple will sell!

Bravo! I find the name Tirranna very apt for this impressive craft. Guess it means "running waters" in an Australian aboriginal language. People with the coin to buy this sextuple motored yacht are maybe educated enough to know about the renowned house, famously designed by celebrated architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The computer-generated imagery video is both spectacular, unique and cutting edge. Always fun when market leaders dare to break new ground on all levels. Here's a company that does almost everything right, so I got to ask, WHY 50th? Now, let's see if the Cigarette Racing Team brass, got the brass balls, it at this stage takes, to admit that 2019 is the year for the Cigarette Racing Team company to celebrate its 49th anniversary, not its 50th? Heck, they might even sell some boats here on 'The Left Coast' if they did a 49th Anniversary Edition for us. We can't really relate to what used to be our Scarab boats anymore and the truth is that we are fond of the number 49. ;)

rak rua 02-06-2019 06:39 PM

Excellent video presentation but it's not me. The boat looks beautiful and I love outboards but seeing six of them take up the whole transom looks a bit strange. Once you get to that size boat, especially an outdoor entertaining style boat, I'd prefer diesel inboards and a large boarding platform

It's hard not to love everything Cigarette build because their boats are about as good as it gets. I'm sure there will be buyers for this new flagship with a pedigree and my opinion doesn't count for much but I'm still entitle to it. :)

RR.

Feverz29 02-06-2019 08:02 PM

Nit picking but I agree with RR the 6 outboards disrupts the lines of the boat. Still an amazing piece.

I respectfully disagree about the 50th anniversary, personally I don't think it matters too much.

Cigarette racing team, the company, was founded in 1969. To me it really doesn't make a difference that they sold their first boat in 1970. They're celebrating 50 years of the company's existence, not necessarily 50 years since their first boat delivery.

Similarly, BMW was founded in 1916, but didn't sell a car until 1928. In 2016 they celebrated 100 years of BMW. Oh well, its all marketing anyways.

larslindroth 02-06-2019 10:18 PM

Date and dating; transom grace bounds for happy space...

I tend to agree about the precious transom space. I value it and I think most boaters got good memories from time spent on the swim-platform and rear sundeck. Photos of happy time on the twin Volvo IPS 600 diesel powered Swedish J-Craft 42 Torpedo model below. Quiet and no fumes.

I wonder why so many are under the impression that Cigarette Racing Team was started in 1969? Don started Don Aronow Inc., dba Cigarette Racing Team on 03/19/1970. His first boat building company was called Our Corporation Inc., which he started with his first wife Shirley in 1962. That company among other things dba Formula Boats etc. When he started Donzi Marine and Magnum Marine Corp. he had a company named Donald Aronow Inc. among others, but it's irrelevant here. When they started producing the Cigarette 28 for the public, in December 1970, it was a success and 50 boats were sold for the first 6 months. During the summer and autumn of 1970 several racing boats were constructed. How many? That I admit I don't know.

P.S. Now Don was a marketing genius, so it's easy to get confused by his advertising. If his 1963 Formula 233 'The Cigarette' had won The World Championship he would have maybe changed this ad to say; Don Aronow's Cigarette Racing Team Multiple World Champion since 1963. D.S.
