Winters Over!
Stopped in Walmart yesterday and sent the wife a picture of their Spring clothes on display.
Told her she can take me off of suicide watch for one more Winter !! Icing on the cake is the Burning of the Snowman next weekend on the shore of Lake Erie. A hilarious reason for a party (to drink), dreamt up by a local, to celebrate the end of Winter by burning its eulogy. They stack a pile of discarded Christmas trees 20' tall, wrap it with chicken wire and crate paper to make it look like a giant Christmas tree and then......, set it on fire! Our room is booked! https://www.shoresandislands.com/loc...-2019?id=15083 |
I think we are going up next weekend too. We are actually riding up tomorrow too. Need something to do. February/March, not good. No football and nothing to do.
|
Didn't know about that though.

You’re right, yes I do. We were there 2 twice in the last month. My favorite part of east coast Fla. Capt Hiram’s is s tourist trap but very well done.. Earls Hideaway for music and bikes on Sunday. The real tiki bar, behind Vic’s Italian is the best. Million dollar view, great bands, great food and great owners. Bastard!

Happy to say that we’ve got some snow coming Wednesday...need the plowing money to pay for boating habit |
My crack about the spring clothes at Walmart was sincere. Before we moved to Fla I really struggled w/the Ohio fall/winter climate. The cold and snow I could handle. The wks on end w/no sun I could not. Daylight savings time made it unbearable. Get up for work it’s dark outside. Get off work it’s dark outside. Ugh. A buddy from Miami used to regularly visit family in Columbus. When I had the Fla move locked in he visited and told me he could tell when they were flying over Ohio because when you looked down everything was gray and dead. No snow, just gray and dead. I remimber one of our first visits back to Ohio during winter, we stayed 7 days and only saw the sun on one! So back before the move, I shopped at a local Meijers store and I kept track of when they put their marine supplies back on the shelves. That was a sign that I’d survived one more ****ty Ohio winter 😉🌴🐊 |

Way cool!
Always wanted to do that. When we were at our favorite hotel on Lake Eries shoreline 2 wks ago, I found a live cam at Put in Bay and there was a guy ice boating past the camera! I watched him for at least two beers. He'd sail past, right in front of the camera and then a 1/2 mile into the distance before turning and coming back. Tons of ice boating in the Erie islands history but not sure how many winters they get smooth ice. I used to skate anywhere/everywhere when I was young and it was the same issue for that. My dad had sail boats the whole time he had power boats and I always enjoyed them. Ive heard the stories of how fast those ice boats are on good ice w/a strong wind ;)

This was some great ice we had in late March last winter after a big thaw and refreeze. Elk Lake, northern Michigan. ed |

If you’re coming out, the party is 3 - 9 or 10, depending on who you ask and there is ZERO parking at the event and Mr Ed’s is hotel parking only. Free shuttles from town to event an all local pubs though.
