Will be interesting to see the 300R’s strapped to a 28 Skater ...

MDS

Especially the new widened 28 Skater that's being rigged now

If the boat went from 113 and 123 with 300’s and 400’s, respectively, wouldn’t it stand to reason that an outboard 34’ boat with 500’s would run over 130?

Jason did you happen to record fuel consumption at any of the speeds mentioned? "Another interesting comparison, the 300R model cruised at 59 mph at 4,000 rpm while the 400R boat was running 54 mph at the same rpm."

I would expect the 300 boat to be better just being lighter, the reports are these motors are even better on fuel than the Verados.

Very interesting to read that the 400R rig outran the 300R in acceleration, as well as 10mph on top end. Everybody has been talking about how strong the 300Rs are in the low and midrange, I'm surprised they got pulled by the 400Rs there. For those of you discussing the lightweight tie-bar setup, I had Hardin Marine/CP Performance build me a titanium tie-bar for my 30 when we converted it to the 400Rs. It's half the weight of stainless steel, with all the strength and corrosion resistance. Give Mike Mays a call at CP Performance and he can build you one!

Weight is a big deal and when you can save up to 300 lbs at the transom by going twin 300R's it's an attractive proposition for the smaller boats. The service cost, reliability, and noise levels are of course other factors that might be of difference. Once the Nordic 28SS with twin 300R's gets dialed in, it will be interesting to see if the performance difference won't be a lot narrower than the same comparison on the MTI 340X.

This is one of the few boats I would send the Fountain down the road for.

Dale, I am not suprised. The 300r with a 6400 max rpm would require a big prop to pull the big number on the upper end compared to the 400r with 100 more ponies and a 7000rpm max. This is only true with boats that are capable of running big numbers. A slower heavier hull I think would play into the torque of the 300r more. IMO for the cat boats that engine would be a lot better with a 6600-6800 max rpm. It would really help the acceleration. That is what makes the 300x so versatile.
