If the boat went from 113 and 123 with 300s and 400s, respectively, wouldnt it stand to reason that an outboard 34 boat with 500s would run over 130?

Jason did you happen to record fuel consumption at any of the speeds mentioned? "Another interesting comparison, the 300R model cruised at 59 mph at 4,000 rpm while the 400R boat was running 54 mph at the same rpm."
I would expect the 300 boat to be better just being lighter, the reports are these motors are even better on fuel than the Verados.

Very interesting to read that the 400R rig outran the 300R in acceleration, as well as 10mph on top end. Everybody has been talking about how strong the 300Rs are in the low and midrange, I'm surprised they got pulled by the 400Rs there. For those of you discussing the lightweight tie-bar setup, I had Hardin Marine/CP Performance build me a titanium tie-bar for my 30 when we converted it to the 400Rs. It's half the weight of stainless steel, with all the strength and corrosion resistance. Give Mike Mays a call at CP Performance and he can build you one!

Weight is a big deal and when you can save up to 300 lbs at the transom by going twin 300R's it's an attractive proposition for the smaller boats. The service cost, reliability, and noise levels are of course other factors that might be of difference. Once the Nordic 28SS with twin 300R's gets dialed in, it will be interesting to see if the performance difference won't be a lot narrower than the same comparison on the MTI 340X.
