Trim Tab speed

Hey folks,

Do you guys have any tips / mods I can do to speed up some hydraulic trim tabs ? They're a single ram tabs running on a single pump

Thank you !

You can go with a thinner oil like a straight 20 or 30 weight oil.

Are they Bennett Trim Tabs or Instatrim?
If I remember corrctly, they both require plain ATF or Power Steering fluid.

Call the manufacturer. I know for a fact that the customer service at Bennett sets the bar for marine companies.

On raceboats we'll run ATF in K-Planes so they'll react quicker than with the prescrided 10W30 oil (with added bonus of being easier to spot leaks).

That is what is in mine (K Planes),,,,,, because my buddy that helped rig it also does race boats.

And I like my drive and tabs to move slower so I can dial it in better. Helps me find the sweet spot. To each is its own.

If there isn't one already, install a power relay(s) near the pump motor to avoid the voltage drop on the wire run from the switch.

With you on this. Back in the day with the Velocity I came up with a system of using Holley carb jets in the hydraulic lines to slow down the tab action so that you could get things just where you wanted them. One of Steve's bastardly 32's, one mofo of a handful at the century mark.

Makes sense. ATF is equivalent viscosity to a 10w oil. My Dana HP1000 tabs call for 30w oil. One tab hose had a pinhole and milkshaked the oil. Flushed out with bulk 40w oil. Other tab with 30w oil was noticeably faster responding.

Well for me I am just a pleasure boater so I thought it was kind of funny. It’s not like I noticed they were to slow before. I have never raced a boat so don’t know what is better there.
