Supposing a guy needs to shop for a new block for a gen V 454 mag (I'm not sure yet, but I'm mentally preparing).
...are GEN VI blocks an option if I use my intake, heads and crank? It would be nice to keep the forged internals and rect port heads. What kind of differences will I face? Can I source one out of a late 90s chevy truck? Upgrading to a roller setup might be nice...
It seems there might be differences in oil flow, and or coolant flow from the gen V to VI engines?

Well, I determined that the best course of action is to buy a GM performance block brand new. Summit has them and it is described as a gen V/VI block. They come with finished bores ready to assembled, shipped to your door for 1700. My engine is still lower hours and I think I could have reused all the internals with new rings bearings and gaskets. That said, i think that my block may be fine. A lake test will tell for sure.
