Personally, I think the point is starting to show the what is possible with the new engine platform. The 400R was (is??) the peak of the Inline 6 "VERADO" 4-stroke platform.
The first largest Verado was 275 HP, I believe, and over the years they bumped it up to where they now have a "non-racing" 400 HP. The I-6 has done really well for Mercury, but they are moving the the new V-6 and V-8 platform and showing us the potential. There is no way that 450 HP is the peak of this new platform and I am excited for what is coming next. |
Torque, Torque, Torque!

Not trying to be a smart ass but what is the huge advantage of a 450 vs. 400 in a center console setup? I guess I get it for the catamaran applications. It means more acceleration and top end. That market seems pretty small still. I don’t see a huge benefit for cc. Can someone explain? A lot of the CC's are performance hulls who also enjoy those benefits as well. The new Tiranna picked up 10 mph with the swap in a Giant ass heavy boat (be with 6 motors) but that is pretty badass IMO. |
