Lake Superior isn’t exactly what I think of when I hear inland lake.

Offshore, way more challenging. FPC, and 99.95% of poker runs anywhere are not "offshore". Offshore is long distance, mostly out of sight of land, emergency prepped, limited communication, salt, swell, and hope you don't break or crash because it's going to be a longggg wait. Running fast offshore adds to the difficulty.

If you are comparing inland saltwater boating to lakes, its about the same - lakes are a bit tighter and more congested, inland salt is a little harsher environmentally but has a little more space. The water gets flat everywhere, even in the ocean so I'm not sure your view that you cant blow over or trip a boat offshore makes sense. You can stuff offshore though!

I have been at LOTO all my life and own a home there.. At LOTO we don’t have to check the weather to go boating. You go to put in bay on Lake Erie for a beer and you might not be able to boat back home!!

As for the topic at hand... it all varies so drastically there is no definitive answer.

I have been in the ocean when it was flat as glass, and I have been in the ocean in 2 story house size waves with insane hang time.

Ive been in the great lakes when its flat as glass and I have been in the great lakes when it was so rough it will knock your filling loose and send you to dialysis.

The nicest thing about lakes is salt free and no sharks. I remember being off Point :Loma (San Diego) on a pwc and having a big grey fish swim under me that was significantly bigger than the jet ski I was on. Made a deal that day... I would not eat them if they didn't eat me. Took my mom to the Real Seafood Company by boat sunday for her 79th birthday... I ordered chicken.....

July 2008 I was in destin for a week. Beautiful day. Bay was flat as glass. Pontoon boats were at crab island. Go out to open water and I was climbing huge waves. The props were breaking out in a 35 foot boat. I kept going out thinking it would lay down. Finally got the balls to turn around and go back. Go to AJS for lunch. Run into a friend from Missouri. “Im like what’s up with the water it’s the gulf?” He laughs and says he dumb ass a hurricane landed in Texas all the beaches are closed ! Lmao lesson learned.

Hands down offshore, not even close, Imagine running out across the ocean on a beautiful day you can see for miles with nothing around you and ruining in 2' rollers, all good everyone having a god time, and boom a humpback whale comes up in front of you, looks like someone dropped a semi truck in your path. NOW that was exciting.
