Can't shift into reverse
 

Was boating over the weekend and had one of my motors stall out while I was in reverse. Was able to shift into neutral and start motor. Now shifter will go into forward and back to neutral without problem but won't shift into reverse. Checked the shift cable back to engine and it is working fine. It appears the shift cable going into the drive is the problem. 525 motors with XR drives. Any idea on a fix?

Bravo's don't like to be shifted without the motor running. My guess is its either the lower shift cable or drive shift fork,

That's my guess too. Any idea how to fix it?

I think your talking about 91-17262 which is used to set the lower shift cable position

I would see if there is still 3 inch spacing on shift cable, and if its there, then pull the drive and check if cable is still in position. If everything checks out, remove the rear cover from the upper and check out upper shift fork.

If it ever happens again and does not move easy into neutral, keep a little pressure on shifter while someone else jumps across the slave relay to bump the starter

Thanks for the input but I don't think a shift adjustment tool will help me. The cable will shift into forward but is completely seized when trying to put in reverse. How do you jump across the slave relay to bump the starter?

Disconnect upper shift cable from assembly and then move the shifter and see if it moves freely.
If it does, then its most likely the lower cable, shift linkage assembly and detent ball or the shift fork.

Cross the to larger contacts on top the relay
