Higher octane has a higher knock point than the lesser rated octane.

Boosting compression either by ration or power adder (turbos/ supercharger etc.) increases and invites per-ignition.. so if you are going up much in compression - cheaper to go up Octane with attention to fuel delivery (A/F ratio) and seriously monitor your spark curve or you are going to be burning up internal parts if your build hasn't been proven - ie: rebuild vs piecing together a build

Yea that is the issue here, a lot of the runs we do I can not make it there and back. Also I am on a lift so that makes it even more of a PITA.

Kind of why I always wondered why the big CC's put 400R's on when without 93 they pretty much are a 350R.
Not like those guys are trailering every day.

That is the thing, I live in FL, east coast but up here 93 is NO WHERE on the water. 90 no problem.

Seems strange to me. But Non computer controlled motors aside seems you could build 90 octane blower motors, still better then Ethanol 87..

I always carried Octane Booster just in case I was out and the marina didn't have 93. Other than that, I ran a SBC with a roots blower in a 21' runabout. It needs all of the 93. AS noted above, .30 cents a gallon is cheaper than parts.
