That could win at a tractor pull.

American ethanol has the same setup

I don't believe they are the same set up , the engines in American ethanol are coupled together like a V-16 . The engines in 4 of a kind can all run independent of each other

phughes69 09-25-2019 09:38 PM

I wonder how many fuel tanks and how many gallons total? It said saddle tanks but not how many. Its got to be every bit of 300 gallons or more.

I don't know how much fuel she holds but I was told she will consume close to 5 gallons per mile at wide open throttle

TopSpin80 09-26-2019 11:10 AM

is this the driveline setup in the boat?

That sure looks like what is in her.

BIGSLOW 09-26-2019 11:28 AM

So could this boat run home on plane with 3 engines or even 2 engines? One spinning each wheel or are the wheels too big?

The wheels are too big for one engine to spin it fast enough to get it on plane , and with only one engine in gear for any amount of time it will over heat the other transmission

Quad Outerlimits at different ends of the spectrum.

Hope she doesn't happen to become an insurance claim in the near future. The quad modded diesel Outerlimits Carbon SV-52 FPT/(Volvo Penta), on the other hand, has always been surrounded by positive accomplishments. Right now she's being perfected by the best diesel wizards there are in the biz, and will be something very unique. I can't wait 'till she flies at 120 mph plus in honor of the late Fabio Buzzi.

Good job stealing the thread! That’s an apples to oranges comparison of boats.

Sorry I fail to see the similarities between those two boats

Neither do I. I saw the boat at Rodney's shop when we were blocking up Kevin's Apache after a trailer problem. Its a cool piece and the setup is totally different. Not to mention its a pleasure boat. Never understand why people on OSO bring up all the negative stuff. Kudos for Rodney even attempting to bring back this cool piece. 99.99999% wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole even if the bilge was full of cash...lol

TopSpin80 09-27-2019 12:36 PM

Definitely a cool piece whether it has "history" or not. There is very little information around about it though.

I was hoping to hear about a disengagement mechanism/clutch system so it could run on 2 engines.

Same here

F-2 Speedy 09-27-2019 01:02 PM

Id think the gear drive that connects the drive shafts to the prop shaft is direct drive ?? :readinghelp: when one of the trans are put in gear the prop is turning, front or rear engines, its a heavy beast and needs all 4k HP to get it on.......:boat:

AllDodge 09-27-2019 01:10 PM

Not some kind of over running clutch like on a tractor pto

That is how it works so if one engine is put into gear it will start to spin the planetary gears of the other trans and with no fluid movement for cooling she will burn up the transmission if she runs for like that for any long period of time

I sincerely apologize. Had zero intention of stealing a thread. My contribution was only with the intention of showing the two so different approaches to choosing a design for the rigging and driveline choices when it came to these two impressive Outerlimits of this magnitude. I, therefore, decided on the title; " Quad Outerlimits at different ends of the spectrum."
That the 47' Outerlimits '4 Of A Kind', of this thread, originally had wonderful Keith Eickert mills, downboxes and ASD10s sure made everybody take notice more than 20 years ago, and IT IS still a very interesting boat. I look forward to following the fortunate owner's endeavors to make her run great this time around. My sarcastic comments surrounding her previous unfortunate turn of events with regards to biz $$$ is better forgotten by now. Subscribing to this thread and again I'm sorry if I unintentionally disrupted this thread about this unique 47 Stiletto, that most offshore boaters would love to call their own.

If you look at post #60 each engine has a transmission and it is a direct drive after that .

is one engine on a crashbox and one on a velvet drive?

green lightning 09-27-2019 03:47 PM

No both are velvet drive type transmissions , But the owner is talking about putting a shiftable crash transmissions back in there To maybe lesson some of the transmission problems the boat has had .

hogie roll 09-27-2019 05:00 PM

I like the way American ethanol did it. But I’m kinda struggling with understanding what kind of forces the rear engines crankshaft sees in that setup.
