Engines coupled to two surface drives . Or at least that’s how it used to be set up . Crazy set up ! Good to see it still around

holy sheet! . . . more pics and info are gonna be necessary with this thread . . . .

custom29scarab 09-22-2019 07:46 AM

Still coupled together will work on more pics.

glassdave 09-22-2019 09:28 AM

ok this might a dumb azz question . . . not my first :D . . . but are those small blocks? I mean they are 4/71 blowers and where you can see the bottom of the left rear motor it kinda looks like a bigger gap between the first and second tube at the head?? Kinda look like small-ish valve covers . . . maybe i'm just seeing things . .. i dunno . . . im intrigued by this thing lol

F-2 Speedy 09-22-2019 09:41 AM

Definitely BBC, seeing the header tube spacing and bolt pattern on the valve cover and looks to be EFI TB's ? 871 blowers ?

glassdave 09-22-2019 09:45 AM

i thought 4-71's had the four spaces on the side . . . i'm just trying to figure out how they stuffed all that in there lol . . . I'll bet thats fun to service . . .

F-2 Speedy 09-22-2019 09:50 AM

What hull is it, OL ?.......Im not a blower expert........:readinghelp:

Craney 09-22-2019 11:08 AM

It might be the way the picture was taken but the rear motors appeared higher than the front two motors.

tmmii 09-22-2019 01:00 PM

If I remember right, and I could be completely wrong but they were 1,000-1,100 KE and the boat sank when it wasn’t very old. I see Sterling valve covers on it now though, so who knows what they are at this point.

Pretty cool piece but way out of what I would have the patience or pocketbook for!

More importantly, how does it run?

This was the first time it has been in the water in like 20 years , It ran good right up till one of the transmissions went south

And the blower question earlier- 10-71 has the same 4 sections. Don’t know if these are but that was from a picture I found on a blower I ordered.

Craney 09-23-2019 08:52 PM

Eight carburetors,32 spark plugs the list goes on I just can’t imagine.

MyIsland 09-23-2019 09:49 PM

Not sure if this will work.... first link is video as the engines are started. (Not sure how well it sounds). Second link when all 4 runnings

It does not have carburetors is has a custom fuel injection setup each engine has 16 injectors ,2 NOS throttle bodies and fuel management computers that came from Fiat

CT River Baja 09-24-2019 07:31 AM

That thing sounds insane... cant imagine the fuel cost....Way outta my league :pacifier:

yeah, i looked 'em up after the fact . . . was just trying to figure out how four of anything could fit in there. It does look like the front to back spacing is a modified staggered with the rear engines maybe raised? . . . . That thing is NUTS! Cant imagine the sound at WOT :D

The rear engines are raised up , the engines are parallel with each other and the driveshaft passes directly under the back engines and 2 of the engines are counter rotation .

abones 09-24-2019 08:31 AM

Any Idea of the displacement of the engines?

kind of figured that with the belt idler on opposite sides, so the front engines are coupled through a gear box with 1 output to the drive ?

The engines are like 654cu and make 1100hp

Each engine has a transmission and they are connected to the gear box with two inputs and one output
