Cool to see how it's done in other parts of the world, thanks for posting. Like Tiki Joe, I've always wondered how you ended up in Thailand (other than the women...) Where were you living before? How are ex-Pats treated there?

P.S. Thank you all for your interest in my little story, I've been following your epic adventures for years on OSO!
Jon, you are happy mate.
That is all that matters.

As far as the boating scene, it is just a plane ticket away.....and I know that I’m not alone with my open invitation but even if I am mine is always open.

Default Awesome

Thanks for sharing. Great story & pics. We just put ours away for the season and while cleaning had the thought that we had as much fun - if not more - many years ago with an 18' 4-Winns Bowrider and it was nowhere near as much work.

As other have said, I'd love to see more of the boating scene in that part of the world, especially as our season is so short here in MI.

Cheers

Born and raised in Melbourne Australia.
Expats get treated well here if they abide by some common sense rules. Don't want to get involved in too much detail here on OSO but Thais are very proud of their country and their people so respect for their culture and everything about Thailand is the key. Like anywhere, it can be as good/bad as you choose to make and if you don't make the effort, you won't like it.
Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more.

RR

Gary, never a truer word has been spoken.

My German mate is hooked, he's already talking about buying a slightly bigger boat. Had another run today, slightly smaller crew, incl two 14 year old sons (not mine!). Weather looked awful, grey skies but not windy. Headed out to 'Koh Larn' (Coral Island) which is a small island about 5 miles off the coast. Mostly tourists in tour boats, a bit over run and over priced nowadays but still quite nice. Hard to believe the difference in the weather such a short distance away.

Food and the beach are the main attractions but you can rent a scooter and explore the island. There's not a lot to see and the roads are only a dirt track but good for tourists to see something.

If you forget to bring your beach gear, you can buy something there that'll do the job.

For lazy expats, we were happy just to sit back under the trees with good food and (you guessed it) some cold beverages!

Bit of a breeze later, still a safe trip back and the tractor had been fixed!

cheers,
RR
