Marc was running his 26' sutphen, 572 with merc 900 blower package on it, xr drive. He has many, many friends in the powerboat world and has run on just about every boat brand and model built.
He started working at outerlimits within the last year. It was a dream come true to Marc to be around boats all day everyday.
The bay was very rough Saturday, wind blowing se at 15+ all day. Marc and a few others went for one more blast around the bay before tying the boats up for the night. Running side by side with a friends 32 fountain they got into some rougher areas and Marc let off a little, the fountain pulled ahead and Marc crossed his wake running pretty hard, the bow went up high, the boat flew about 20' into the air and on the way down it tripped and stuffed. It did not capsize or roll. We're fairly certain (fire rescue) he was gone before he hit the water. There was significant trauma.
Brent was ejected from the boat at the same time and had severe spinal injuries. He was found right away, rushed to shore but passed at the hospital about 90 min later. Brent was another great guy, had a nice 42 fountain, and just decided to hop in with Marc and go for the ride.
I was at the scene within 5 minutes of the crash, at least 15 boats looked for Marc until well after dark. I was working the next morning so we searched sun up to sun down in the fire dept. boat alongside dozens of other agencies and civilians. This went on continually until today.
With the help of friends that saw the accident, dropped waypoints where the boat came to rest, nearby witnesses and a video we we're able to put together a high probability area. Massachusetts state police divers gave one last shot even though nothing came back on sonar, off their gut feeling and they found Marc.
His lifejacket was still on but did not deploy. I do not know if it was manual or hydro activated.

A very important lesson learned by many here was how useful the MOB button is on your gps. Because of my job as a firefighter, I've dealt with a few marine accidents and lost parties. If a victim is not found on the surface quickly after an accident they most likely went to the bottom, and that happens fast. You don't move once down either, forget the current, tide, wind etc. Where you go down is where you will stay until you float 3-5 days later. Marked waypoints help rescue and recovery efforts immensely.

Very very sad, condolences to all those who have been effected by the loss.
Unlimited jd, thank you for telling the facts and a bigger thank you for all the time you and your colleagues contribute to help make boating safer for everyone.
Jon.

Thanks for the update...my condolences, very tragic happening to somebody doing what he loved. Responsible boating too...backing off when it gets rougher than your comfort level, life preserver...sad.
