A sad ending to a great boat
Found some pics at another forum of the old Tencara Callan Marine.. it`s rotting away somewhere down in Deland,FL. Just think of what a great pleasure/poker run boat this could have been?https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...899f869472.jpg

Here`s a picture from 1997 when it ran as JollyMotors, Laith & JT became world champions with this boat that year.https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f9bc518627.jpg

The old Lucas boat use to sit in the same yard.

Sank ? What the hell can cause a boat to be in such shape in such a short period ! |
Looks like it hit something with that amount of damage ...or they stuffed it hard maybe ???

So it`s a graveyard for old race boats in other words? It`s doubtful that this Tencara is repairable now it seems like it has been sitting out there for quite some years, but i think a guy like Gary Stray could have fixed the original damage the boat got in Key West 04 within 1-2 weeks if the boat had been in better condition.
It’s someone’s yard. Don’t remember the details but I think he transported Nigel Hooks boat. Think I remember seeing the 6 door Lucas tow vehicle. It’s not far from Mystic so if someone wanted to fix it they could. That picture I posted was before it stuffed in Key West. |

It’s been awhile but we usually ride past it during Bike Week/Biketoberfest. Probably going in a couple of weeks might take a ride past if I get time. |
I’m sure John still owns it, he had it for sale soon after it came back from Key West. It sure would make a great back yard bar with some sawzall trimming😎 |
Didn't the damage of this 48 speed up the design/build/debut of the 50 that is the next gen of Cosker boats?? - which is better known as the Mystic C5000R

It seems like John Cosker still owns the Tencarra, atleast according this old thread from 2007: offshoreonly.com/forums/general-boating-discussion/159455-callan-marine-tencara-sale.html. But why in the hell did he not fix the boat before trying to sell it ???
|
Couple 2x4's from Depot for structure and a roll or two flex seal tape and it would be good to go.

Because it could not be repaired to be safe at high speeds. I believe it had something to do with the type of original layup material that was used.
Really? that sounds very strange to me. The Spirit of Norway team in UIM class 1 repaired their boat inhouse in less than 10 days after a crash and this boat was a sister to the Callan Marine Tencara. I think the guys at Mystic could easily have fixed the boat and converted it to a pleasure boat if they had wanted to do so. |
My neighbor owns it. $15k buys it.
if you want pm me for #. |

Mystic also went ahead and outright replaced the original JBS hull (not boat) vs. repair the damage.
Running at 200mph is not the time to question if the crew doing the repair actually knew what they were doing and FIXED the full extent of the delam |
hadnt this boat been repaird before? its junk now and mabe it could be a good road side sign like the old 46 skater was for sloppy joes.

First of all i would like to say that John Cosker seems like a nice guy, but he has been a bit classless in my opinion. First he scanned the Tencara where he made some minor adjustjustments and then he claimed the Mystic C5000 was entirely his work and denied the mold was a scan from the Tencara, then we had this story with the JBS Mystic. Doesn`t sound like a great "Naval architect" to me.

BTW - the 50'performance report card is one helluve tweek imho if that is all the credit John deserves
.... besides, I always thought it was that the mentor is supposed to be exceeded by the student just as the next gen of high performance boat/ car or ??? is supposed to exceed the safety and performance targets of its predecessor..even for the damage that MY WAY incurred hitting the cruiser wake - it's still running hard but the damage wasn't on the running surface if I remember correctly like the Tencara has |

I think its personally pretty classless to criticize someone on a forum based on information you're not personally privy too in depth. Second hand info, "what you heard", etc. isn't exactly the facts. I'm guessing you've never actually had a conversation with Cosker. If you had, you'd never use the word "classless" to describe him. One of the most approachable, laid back, cool mo-fo's you'll ever meet. Come on down to the tree bar in Key West during the worlds / poker run in November and tell him how classless he is for whatever reason. I can tell you, it wouldn't be the first time some hater sat there and talked sh!t not knowing they were talking sh!t to the very guy that built the boat they're talking sh!t about. But you'd never known it, cool as always, John just let the guy talk, never saying a word. But that's another story and a hilarious one at that. But if you really wanted to know the history of Callen, where the inspiration for the Mystics came from, why he chose not to repair certain boats, etc. he just might tell you if the timings right. He's not one to toot his own horn but catch him at the right time, say over dinner, he just may tell you personally all about it.

I`m certainly not trolling. The reason as to why i started this thread was because i hate seeing great boats like this one in such conditions and i just wanted to share it, there`s lots of history to this boat.
