Do you sit or stand......
No not to pee lol
I'm talking about when driving your water toy...I see all these fast cats and such with sit down seating and I can't imagine going that fast sitting down. I will cruise in mine 50 or so in flat water but any roughness or faster speeds I like to be standing to let my legs take some of the shock instead of my back lol. So lets hear it....do you prefer sitting or standing and for you guys with stupid fast sit down boats how bad is it on your back? This is meant to be a fun little discussion opinion thread so let's leave drama at the door please lol |
While not super fast, I feel that I have much better control of the boat sitting down.
|
At 20 yrs old I preferred to stand.... at 58 and fat... give me a seat any day of the week.
|
I'm 71, run a 28 Skater, and if I read the water/wave wrong ... it hurts. ;-)
p.s. if I'm on my game, no hurt, big fun. :-) |
I always stand I just feel like I can read the water better and have a better view the other boat traffic. Think I sat down one time last summer on a long run down the lake but the water was calm and just cruising along about 50mph.
|
If you have the right seats, sitting is my choice.
|
Are there suspension systems in some of these sit down boats? I would have to think that a boast designed to be a sit down boat would have better seating than a piece of plywood with foam on it like the bolsters in my boat lol
I agree with the standing for a better view point...I have a very canted dark windshield on my boat which you can not see sh!t through so if you want to see standing is about your only choice lol |
Sit & Stand just cruising speeds, but always stand when I'm running hard...
Can see better when standing & can make better decisions because of it. |
Last summer my son and I went out to lake Michigan for a nice run from South Haven to Holland. We don't have a performance boat (226 Cobalt 7.4 MPI Bravo 3). The lake had a pretty good chop - the seats in our Cobalt are what I call a sit/squat in which you can flip up a portion of the bottom cushion and sort of stand. We rode with these up for a while and then finally stood up. After a little longer my son and I both agreed that the ride was much smoother with us just sitting down. Just so you know the kill switch strap is ALWAYS on our wrists when we are on the big lake !
I think that all of this depends on the boat, waves and the "riders". Regardless - just being on the water is what it is all about. Spring 2020 can't come fast enough!!! 3pointstar |

In 1992 I converted my 28 Magnum to sit down configuration. It was super comfortable and It gave you a very secure feeling, compared to standing, in a boat with relatively low freeboard. I would always find myself wanting to stand up to get a better read of the oncoming seas when running in the rough stuff. I still feel you have the most control of your body when on your feet so that's how I prefer to run. W |
That's what blows me away about the sit down boats and kinda why I started this...can you even see over the bow?? LOL Granted I have to be a lot more conscious of waves in my little guy but I would think even in a big skater or gladiator or whatever you would still need to see over the bow and watch the water...I just think I would always try to be standing up or struggling to see over the bow...that being said I have never been in one of these types so maybe the seats are high enough that you can see everything possibly?
I guess its almost the same dilemma with the left hand throttles in a fountain...some people hate them and can't get used to them and some say it takes 5 min to get used to... |

Will never stand again until I throw in the towel and get a CC. Probably still sit in the seat then and just cruise. I'm 51 and my knees are toast |
Ok so being a cat does it land softer than a vee? Never been in a cat at speed like that so I really don't know how they land just seen videos hahaha....also do you have any type of suspension on the seats? If I was sitting in my boat and launched like that I would need an ambulance at the dock cuz my back would be broken hahahaha....granted I do have a small lake boat so its way different anyway lol
|
|
So if this turns into a "show your launch" picture thread I am TOTALLY fine with that!!! Awesome rides fellas!!!

Very cool....that's saying something that its softer than a gun or AT as those are usually top 3 in rough water ride mentioned!!

I sit when running hard. I feel I have more control of the boat, as well as visual access to the important gauges. I was also told several years ago at a poker run that standing while running hard is "a good way to get hurt". The guy is older than me and has experience running 130+ in a v-bottom. ....so I took the advice and didn't ask questions. :) |
If I was cool enough I would sit on the tops of my bolsters while running like the Candyman. :cool-smiley-026:

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ee078fd8ba.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9e1fee613d.jpg There's no comparison how much easier sitting in my Comp is on my back and knees vs standing was in my 35 and 38 Fountains. A number of times at lunch stops on poker runs I've listened to participants talking about how rough it was out there and how beat up they feel - and I'm like, Seriously??? I don't know how much of it is just a sit-down-thing vs the better 38 ZRC Comp hull is over my beaks, but I really think sitting down has to be easier on your back and knees in a dedicated sit down with good seats. Vision on the other hand really takes some getting used to in a dedicated sit-down-boat vs standing in a traditional Vee. When I first got in my Comp I just naturally wanted to stand up to get a better view. It just takes some getting used to. I recently test rode in a couple of 38 ZR's thinking I might want to go back to a traditional Vee and it's just not for me. It now seem goofy and I feel really vulnerable standing up at speed in rough water. |
I have suspension seats in my current boat, I dont feel a thing!
Previous cat was regular seats and the ride was great! Previous V was 42 Fountain PR sit down...loved it too! Last stand up was a 312 Fastech...many years ago. Like the others said...once you get use to it, its hard to go back! |
Nordic Heat..................stand, unless I am cruising low speed on smooth water. I had a Baja Hammer where i had to sit..............never again.
|
Same lol....I have to it on a throwable cushion in my heat just so I can see over the windshield...can't imagine doing that at 80 plus hahaha

That's right...if you're stepped that thing should be in the 90's....think it takes 850 or so to get those to 90....fastest non stepped like mine I know of ran 88 with 860-880 HP if I remember right...If you spin that 30 efficiently I'd bet you'll see 90 easy
Watch your A/F's with upping the boost!! ask me how I know hahaha Let me know your results!! |
I just cut my throwable up, trimmed the high density foam and stuffed in in the bottom cushion of my seat, Going to give it a try this weekend but I think I can see over the windshield now,
As for comparisons,,, running hard I feel really secure as a sit down, though when just hanging out in the boat, it does put a damper on the socialization aspect. |
I may have to give it a shot...If I like it better I may modify my seat so I can see over my windshield without a rigjob cushion on the seat hahaha
Hmmmm....sit down Nordic heat with a bustle??? That would be a sight lol |

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cb2bf854c9.jpg I think that it depends on the boat not cat or V I like them both in same sea conditions |
I'm definitely more of a stand up guy, especially on busy weekends, a lot of idiots out there to look out for, poker runs are 50/50, over 60 I'm usually in the seat |
I preferred to sit. The seat bases in my 30 Y2K are quite thick an compress quite a bit and absorb a bunch. It’s my right pointy ass elbow that takes the most beating. That’s what works best in my application for me. I’m sure it depends on free board, sightlines, as well. |
Cats ride so nice you are better off sitting, besides you are over the tunnel, you would be standing on the boat instead of in it. In our 50 Cig we stand but it does get old after while.
|
IMO people that prefer to stand probably have bolster seat that IMO are designed for standing at speed. When sitting in a bolster I always feel the seats are to high and my legs are not secure. In a bolster seat I would prefer to stand. Now in a properly designed sit down seat I feel way more in control of the boat and way more secure from a potential stuff and side hits. When your dash and windscreen are designed for the correct vision to see over while sitting down there is no problem seeing.
|
Makes a lot of sense typhoon...now that you brought it up most of the "sit down" boats I've seen have high back like racecar type seats...my bolsters aren't even close to a design like that...the backs stop in about the middle of my back when sitting so I think that may be why I feel kinda "vulnerable" in that position...plus like you said my feet are damn near dangling in the breeze which isn't great at 80 either hahaha
|
I only look at the tile and thought you were asking to PEE
Boat wise I like to sit |
I agree 100% with Randy. My Scarab has stand up drop bottom bolsters. I fit like a glove. When I try to sit I can't see over the dash or thru the windscreen.
|
I always drop the bolster down and stand in my Baja.
Only time I sit is anchored eating lunch. The Wife however pretty much always sits, even running hard. |
