Checkmate news - update
Paul L. posted this today on the Checkmate forum.
The owners of Checkmate have not seen much interest in acquiring the Checkmate molds and intellectual property as a whole, as much as they would like to see the company continue rather than be dissolved. Therefore, offers will be taken on individual models rather than the company as a whole. On the side note, due to increasing demand for restorations, the owners of Checkmate Powerboats has decided to keep the upholstery shop open for all makes and model boats. If you have any interest in acquiring the Checkmate Company or purchasing the individual molds, please give us a call at 631-208-2933. If you would like to quote on upholstery work or to set up an appointment, please call 419-562-3881.
The following Hull & Deck Molds are for sale, sold only as complete set:
- 300 Convincor/MX-2800
- 270 Convincor
- 260 Convincor/MX-2600
- 350 ZT

- 275 ZT

tough market ! wondering what these molds would sell for ... I've seen so many from 100 k down to 10 k and some at 2500$ and they don't move at all, or not fast to say the least...
40fasthawk usually has a couple a year but again... not many knocking at the door ...

I don't know any of the people in that video.............but it seems like they all read the same "script"
Host is from the "east coast" and saw a bunch of Checkmates running around? It was a midwest company out of Ohio?!?!?
New owner is a young guy with a lot of energy but has been in the industry for years?
Does anyone really believe that Hustler had 4-5 interested parties or was the young kid the only one that made any type of offer?
Good luck to the new owners, hopefully they can carve out the niche that makes them money and continues the brand name (something Hustler couldn't do with the line).

I think you raise a few good questions and there are at least a few more.
What two hulls are they going to start with?
As an East coast company will they focus on the 250SFX?
Did they get the upholstery shop that was still in business, or any of the Checkmate staff?
How well do they plan to market the brand?
