Yes they are....We had a set of 525's in our 38 Top Gun F-2 T/S Cigarette "Lucky Strike"

I've also decided to put a new complete interior in the Gladiator. The original one was nice, but 17 years old.

Also decided to add new Transom Assembles to go with the new drives

He's going to be pissed off when he takes the first ride and sees how much better it handles (with this drive / prop set-up) vs what he has on his! 10 to 1 he converts! :-) :479:

When I 1st thought about buying this 17 year boat From Joe I planned how I was going rig it.
When Joe was kind enough to deliver it to me I then saw how really nice & original it was.

Originally going to put a rebuilt set of 500 efi's from F2 Speedy that he rebuilt personally.
A rebuilt set of XR's..The used CMI's big tube headers I got with the boat, since they were fresh water use.
The original interior looked great, but 17 years old and showed it's age in spots.

After assessing what I actually had & the condition of the boat, I figured it deserved to have better equipment
So I raised my sights.
Decided on a set of fresh water use 525 efi's with original low hrs.... A lot more $.... And Brand new CMI Gen X headers
Brand new XR's instead of rebuilt. New transom assemblies were a after thought once I receiver the drives.

One night when I couldn't get to sleep thinking how great this boat was going to come out (like every night)
I then thought what else can I do to make this Gladiator like perfect.
I then decided to replace the Interior and make it 2 tone instead of all white.
I'm going to have a new cover with a bow cover made also.

Now you can understand why I'm over my original budget.

thisistank 04-07-2020 02:20 PM

HAHAHA....."Budget".....That's a good one. I never even considered a number. Not because I'm some baller or anything (far from it) but because I know whatever number I came up with would go out the window. It always does. No point in even having a budget.

wananewboat 04-07-2020 02:45 PM

One day of boating makes it worth every penny, have fun with it and keep the pictures coming.

strugglinToolSalesMan 04-07-2020 04:09 PM

This is how you calculate a budget...
What number you think its going to take...

$XX,000.oo X 2.5 = $$$

Subtract the 0.5 there, I came in under budget...
Don't look at the receipts until the WHOLE project is done !!!

Great set up by the way...I love my Gladiator !!!

Someone asked me a long time ago how much money it cost to fill up my boat. I told him I had no idea.

I always looked to verify the gallons on the pump matched the gallons on the receipt. After that guys comment, I looked at the cost. Didn't like it. Never looked again! ...and now we're talking 500 to 1k+ gallons each fill-up! LOL

Tale of 2 friends:

One guy had a new 38 TG/525s - would fill 50 gallon drums with fuel (2-3) in the bed of a Ford Ranger, then drive 2 miles home and siphon fuel with a garden hose from the truck to the boat down on a lift...........to save money!

Other friend new 38 Powerplay (also 525s).............would pull into local marina and fill. Didn't even shop prices, just hit the closest marina to his house.

Can you figure out which friend had more fun on their 38 ft go fast boat? :D

offshoredrillin 04-09-2020 07:07 AM

Good to see it coming together Steve, budgets and time frames... i had them once... the Tiger was on schedule until Richy hacked it up, set me back 2 years as its harder to make something right once its F'd up and takes twice as long and costs 3 times as much. also did 9 years on the 20. the key is just do what you want, you will enjoy it more in the long run and do it RIGHT the first time.

lucky strike 04-13-2020 04:41 PM

All water hoses replaced today.
You can see that every nut, bolt & fitting in the bilge are still like new.
Fresh water and little use = like new!

Thanks LS Jr for getting the pics for me as I sit at home during this situation we have.

I spoke to several at the Miami show and I really felt good about the Gatorstep people. Mark did a great job explaining how they create different finishes.

agreed. Gator step or seadeck look so nice. Plus you can layer colors in and they can pretty much cut in whatever you want it to say with whatever design. Super nice looking.

Nuke427 04-18-2020 10:26 AM

So funny. I almost bought this boat back in 2010-2011 timeframe when it was for sale at Pier 57. They were asking 109k, would have sold it for 95k. At that time it was more money than I wanted to spend, and I really wanted a staggered setup. So 5 years later I spent $50k more for the NT... :faint2: Wild stuff. I love the paint job on this one! What happened to the Carolina Racing engines that were in it? Thanks for posting and allowing us to follow progress. Good luck!

lucky strike 04-18-2020 10:36 AM

Joe kept the engines & the Imco drives and sold me the boat.
It's amazing how older Cigarette's have appreciated over the years.

Nuke427 04-18-2020 12:42 PM

Yes! I knew the boat was worth much more now! I still love it. Seriously thought that was the coolest paint job on a cig. Don’t change that! Wish I could’ve afforded it back then. You have a keeper. Keep us posted. 👍🏼
