I'm going to be trailering my cabin cruiser back to Indiana from Florida in a few days, and the love bugs are terrible right now. These pictures are from just a 50 mile drive yesterday. Id like to prevent them from getting on the hard top/ arches/ front of the boat as best as possible. Would saran wrap be the best way? Looking for any suggestions.

Saran wrap will come right off.

Use Clear Plastic Stretch Wrap from Lowe's or the like:


...on anything you can wrap like the arch, windshield struts, rails, anchor. For the leading edge of the bow hatch, lights, portholes, etc, wrap them in blue painters tape. I would not put anything on the hull.

A little trick in the race car world: when we are painting the cage inside the car, put a thick coat of wax on the outside of the car. That way any paint that settles on the surface of the car, just wipes off with the wax. You could try that on the hull; but I've never done it before on a boat/gelcoat.

Ive used Saran Wrap before. It worked on my radar arch if I used a ton of packing tape to keep it on. I tried wrapping my console in it and it came off. Idk how well it will stay on if you aren’t able to wrap the Saran back around on it self.

I have also heard a good spraying of PAM cooking oil on the leading edges/surfaces will help keep them from sticking.

I was thinking pledge, but similar idea. Maybe he could try one side of the boat with each and tell us what works better.

Dawn dish soap diluted just enough to spray, coat everything, wash when you arrive and it all comes off.

works for diesel soot not sure how it’ll do with bugs

My hauler is taking my boat from Cape Coral to Hialeah in the morning and he said the same thing, the bugs are terrible. I was having it wrapped for the trip to MA, but it’s much smaller. They are suppose to wash it first. I saw a lot of boats going north uncovered.
