Losing a whole Verado at full speed!
Apparently the bolts were not strong enough!
|
A properly designed bolted joint will have enough length between the nut and the head of the bolt to properly stretch the bolt so it doesn’t lose tension.
The larger the bolt diameter, the greater this length needs to be. I’d be weary of a thin bracket or jack plate using huge bolts that wasn’t designed with this in mind. |
So instead of bringing whats left of the engine on board and taking it home, they dropped it in the water..?

Qualified Captain my ass!
Who drives full throttle like that and takes their hands off the sticks? Then starts the other motor while it's gasping air? |
Nice throttling,,,, geeze.
|
So the seat and the engines both have a significant amount of travel underway...

Reminds me of Ron Whites tire, it fell the Fk off..............:lolhit:

Love Ron White.........."I had the right to be silent, I just didn't have the abillility" Odd commentary from the camera guy, lose a motor and "in any other boat it would have capsized?" Not sure about that one unless it was a huge OB on a jon boat with a ton of weight in the front to counterweight the oversized OB. |
Supposed to be a torture test or what?
|
Video is old. They’ve already recovered the motor and flushed it.
guy needs to calm down. They didn’t almost die. |

635 lb motor hanging by the tie bar...........how would you bring that aboard? They marked it on the GPS so they sounded like they were coming back for it.

What the hell!! Drive to the beach disconnect the motor, rope the dislodged outboard securely up for the slow idle to the beach to save the outboard. Then the two adults could have drug the motor via the ropes to the beach.
To hire divers to go back and search for it is ridiculous, I assume his boat insurance covers this, or he is so wealthy he said "f*ck it." That is the difference between an excessively wealthy person who doesn't give a f*ck, and cuts his motor loose when exigent circumstances did not exist. I would have never ever cut my outboard loose unless it would have caused the boat to sink, valve off the fuel (as he said with quick connects) then get towed or idle in to shore to salvage the outboard. I am sick to see someone cut an outboard loose, a f*cking disgrace!!!! |
This is why you put 5 of them on the back. Just in case :)
|
Guys it's his motor..If he wants to cut it loose and get it later (or not) so be it. Like he said at the end of the vid. He'll have another motor on it tomorrow.

Recovery video. Start at 7:40...

I work too hard and care much about boats and the power to just let it sink to the bottom. That is the difference, maybe I was brought up differently. I am not wealthy enough to let my outboard sink to the bottom. |
Yikes

I snapped both upper bolts on an old 2.4 Merc once but the shift shaft kept it from tearing loose like this one did.

I wonder what kind of shape that thing is in. When in running wide open and than ingest water,,,,,, Sat in 100 feet of water, I bet the electronics are toast as well as all connectors.
It will be on craigs list soon,,,,, low hour 300 Verado! Was cool to watch the salvage! |
