03 Formula 292 Prop help

Just bought a new to me 292 with 350 Mags w/ 250hrs.
Got to run the boat today and wasn’t impressed. With a 1/2 tank and just myself I was only able to hit 63mph @ 4950 RPM’s with 28P Bravo 1
Are these the right props? It also slips a lot getting on plane.

We ran 28’s for a while with 383’s in a 2003 292...in my opinion they were too much prop. Assuming you have 350’s and not the 6.2L’s you are probably over propped. I’d try a 4 blade 26. Should be easier to get on plane, and get the Rpm’s up a bit.

Thanks, From what I’ve read it should at least hit 70?

Outdrive trim is critical. On my 311 twin, motors tucked way in for hole-shot, level (measured/confirmed with a straight edge) for cruise (once on plane), and way out (slowly to avoid weight shift porpoising) for max speed. There is over 10 mph difference between level and trimmed out.

I just bought a set of Mercury REV4 25 pitch to test on my boat. They are harder to spin than my 26 Bravo One, I’m going to sell them. There soppose to be really nice sought after props.

Keep in mind, the 292 Fastec's came standard with 1.65 ratio drives. Pretty sure Formula did this due to issues getting on plane.

I’m going to try a set of 26p and see what happens.

I had 292 with 6.2s and 28 bravo 1 mercury racing lab finished is the prop to run. Knew a guy with same boat had 5.7s like yours and he was also running 28 labs and worked well. Being your at 4950 already 28 labs should bring you to 5200 which is perfect for your motors. It will run 70 plus with right prop.
