Default Switchable Mufflers

Looking for some advice. I would like to add some switchable mufflers to my 525, I have stainless marine manifolds so captains call is not an option. I have looked at Gil, Teague Marine and CMI. I am leaning towards Teague, CMI looks nice but hard to swallow $3,000 for clamp on mufflers. Appreciate any feedback, concerns.

I have these CMI’s on my 242. I bought them used and really like them. Even open they sound better than the straight thru hulls. Nice tone. Switch them closed in the harbor. Pneumatic actuated.

Our 32' Sunsation with twin 496 HO's (no captains call) had the CMI pneumatic style installed at the factory when the original owner order the boat and I think were were pricey. I honestly never use them because they make so little difference its not even worth closing them and that's on twin 496' I cant imagine they would be of any help on 525's. The few times I have used them I have leaned over the back of the boat to make sure they closed. I would save your money for something else or try a different brand.

I had the CMI mufflers on my Apache and they only took the bark out of the exhaust, or the edge off of it, or the bite out of it. You certainly were not going to sneak in and out of the marina, but they did make a difference. Those engines were Carolina 1000s.

Used ones come up for sale in the swap shop pretty regularly and if you search, there may be some older listings still for sale.
I have older switchables on my 502mpi's with CMI dry to the tip headers. They take the bark off but definitely not quiet.

I have the Teague on a 502. Quiet it down pretty good but I think they are very restrictive. Not supposed to run them closed over 3500. I only go 3000-3200 I would rather not do that. Mostly just use them at idle around marinas. Like the fact that the muffler and solenoid part is on bilge side of transom so they look like regular tips on outside.

I have the Teague’s as well. They work great and really knock the sound down. Have had t m on the boat for 19 years now. But they’re only good for idle, they would provide way too much back pressure while running.

I have mufflers that are very good at killing the sound , they are also good at fouling plugs because basically it`s like putting banana in the tail pipe.
So you don`t want that , Mine are cool but water can``t get out fast enough. so I restrict the water but then I need enough to keep them cool.. it`s a fun balance game we play
