Default Mercury Racing 540 8.6L (523cu.in)

I searched the site and tried my google foo but I cannot find a user manual or any discussions on service interval specifically when is it time to refresh the upper end. I can't really find any info on what changed from 525 to 540 so maybe they all fall into the 200 hour time frame for upper end refresh? I did find older threads with Eddie Young talking about the 525.

Thanks

Awash.....digging up and older post here but I too am trying to dig into info on these. I have around 120 hours on mine right now and I'm just curious more than anything. I was checking into part numbers through BAMs site and there are some part numbers shared with the 525. Camshaft, valve spring, lifters, oil pump...all the same if those part numbers are correct. Cylinder Head, Valve...not shared if only looking at part numbers. The crank is almost double the money in the 540 which to me says they stepped up to something nicer or they were bought in lower volume....but then it has a cheaper connecting rod in it which is a bummer. I ordered one yesterday to get eyes on what rod is in there.

The valve spring and rocker are what most of the complaints in the 525 were about. Being that they changed the head....maybe the spring installs at a different height and has more pressure.
